Lines on College Football Odds Set Nebraska as Big Fave

October 7, 2010

The lines on college football odds makers have made the ATS losers that are the Nebraska Cornhuskers a big double-digit favorite on the road yet again.

Hey, I’m a big fan of Big Red but only a football watcher not as a football bettor because Big Red just doesn’t cover a whole lot of wagering spreads.  They win and, if you watch their games, they actually win easily, but they’re only 1-2-1 ATS on the season.  That’s not great for football handicappers.

Kansas State is 2 and 2 against this spread on the season making their game versus Big Red on Thursday night yet another challenging game for football handicappers.

#6 Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Kansas State Wildcats

NCAAF Betting Lines

Nebraska Cornhuskers                        -12 -110           -430     O 51 -110

Kansas State Wildcats                                    +12 -110          +340    U 51 -110

The lines on college football trends favor both teams in this game.

  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 6 and 1 ATS in their last 7 games on the road versus a team with a winning home record.
  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 3 and 7 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
  • The Kansas State Wildcats are 6 and 1 ATS in their last 7 conference games.
  • The Kansas State Wildcats are 0 and 5 ATS in their last 5 games at home versus a team with a winning record on the road.

This is an incredibly difficult game to handicap but it makes sense that Nebraska, who is obviously more talented than Kansas State, might be the lines on college football bet ATS in this game.

The ‘Huskers are 1-2-1 ATS but the one cover they did manage was against the Washington Huskies, a team that just upset the USC Trojans as big 10 ½ point dogs last Saturday.  The other three games for Nebraska this year have occurred versus teams that they were supposed to dominate, Western Kentucky, Idaho, and South Dakota State.

Nebraska is one of those teams that steps it up against tough competition and then lies off of the pedal against mediocre competition.  There’s no way that coach Bo Pelini isn’t going to send the Black Shirts against Wildcat QB Carson Coffman who has been sacked 9 times this season against less than stellar competition in UCLA, Missouri State, Iowa State and UCF.  Coffman has thrown only 2 picks so far in 2010 but that could all change this Saturday when Nebraska shows up and unleashes a variety of zone blitzes against the 22-year-old senior.

When it comes to the ‘Huskers’ offense versus the K-State D, forget it.  QB Taylor Martinez and Nebraska should romp all over the Wildcats.  Nebraska scored only 17 points against South Dakota State in their last but I feel that a lot of that had to do with Pelini deciding not to embarrass the sub-division team.

On Saturday, Nebraska’s offense should go all out.  The K-State D hasn’t really stopped anybody.  UCLA scored 22 points against them, Missouri State put up 24, Iowa State 20 and UCF 13.  What’s Nebraska, who scored 49 against Western Kentucky, 38 against Idaho, and 56 against Washington going to do?  Bad things, my friends, bad things…if you’re a K-State fan.

The lines on college football for this game, if anything, should be much higher than 12 points.  I just feel that Nebraska’s going to really step it up this Thursday night.  They’re going to take down the K-State Wildcats and should be considered a good bet to cover the lines on college football spread.
