Lines on College Football – Arkansas vs South Carolina

November 6, 2010

The Lines on College Football are all set for one of the better matchups this Saturday as the 17th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks take on a fellow SEC South rival in the 18th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. With both clubs coming in with identical 6-2 marks on the season and sitting neck and neck in the national rankings, I would almost expect the betting line to be a little tighter.  The lines on College Football shows the Gamecocks as 4 ½ point home favourites and the majority of the betting public thinks that’s to high of a number as 75% of people are taking Arkansas.

Ryan Mallett may be the best player on the football field for either team. This kid has been dynamite all year for the Razorbacks, leading this team to 487.4 yards per game of total offence and 35 points per game. Last week was a banner day for Mallett as he racked up 409 passing yards against Vanderbilt en route to a 49-14 destruction of the Commodores. This was with his favourite weapon, Greg Childs, playing limited action thanks to a bad knee. Not having him in the line up this week will make things a little more difficult, but if guys like Jarius Wright keep stepping up, Mallett is good enough to make plays.

Lines on College Football:
Arkansas – PS +4 ½ (-110) ML +165
South Carolina – PS -4 ½ (-110) ML -200
Total – 59 ½

Despite the depleted receiving core for the Razorbacks, Tennessee showed last week that the Gamecocks have some holes in their secondary. The Volunteers put up 404 yards of offence last week, and although the Gamecocks were able to pull that one out, they gave up three passing scores and 312 yards to a QB that isn’t on the same level as Mallett.

Line on College Football betting trends:

  • Favorite is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
  • Razorbacks are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 meetings.
  • Razorbacks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in November.
  • Razorbacks are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 conference games.

If the Lines on College Football were a little closer to a pick’em, I might give South Carolina more of a look, but I think that Arkansas is just the better all around team. I actually think that they have a shot to win this one outright, handing the Gamecocks their first home loss of the season, but the smarter play is to take the points and Arkansas because if this one does come down to a field goal, which is very likely, you’re still safe with the 4 ½ point cushion. Look for Mallett to have a big day, and for the Razorbacks to do enough to at least cover the Line on College Football.

Lines on College Football Pick: Arkansas Razorbacks (+4 ½)
