Lines on College Football – Kansas, Southern Miss, Both Looking to Record Consecutive Wins
September 17, 2010
After dropping their respective 2010 regular season openers two weeks ago, the Kansas Jayhawks and Southern Miss Golden Eagles both bounced back in a big way last week.
Now, both teams will be looking to cover the lines on college football betting when they take to the gridiron at MM Roberts Stadium tonight at 8:00 PM ET.
Friday, Sept. 17, 8:00 PM ET

Kansas (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS, 1-1 O/U)
Southern Mississippi (1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS, 2-0 O/U)
Kansas 411
- Jayhawks are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.
- Jayhawks are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games in September.
- Jayhawks are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
- Jayhawks are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games.
Kansas picked up a narrow 28-25 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday to even their record at 1-1 and easily cashed in against the lines on college football contest as a 13.5-point home underdog to move to 1-1 against the college football betting line this season while the game’s 53 combined points played just Over the 50.5-point O/U total.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Jordan Webb completed 18-of-29 passes for 179 yards and three scores in the win over Georgia Tech while true freshman James Sims rushed for 101 yards and one TD on 17 carries.
Southern Mississippi 411
- Golden Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win.
- Golden Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.
- Golden Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in September.
Southern Miss rolled to a convincing 34-7 home win over Prairie View the last time out but failed to cover the lines on their college football games as a whopping 32.5-point favorite.
Junior quarterback Austin Davis completed 11 of 18 passes for 178 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the win while Desmond Johnson rushed seven times for 32 yards and two TD’s.
Analysis: I’m going to get right to the point afor my college football betting brethren by saying that each of these two teams has looked absolutely perplexing in its two regular season games so far with Kansas losing its opener to lowly North Dakota State but bouncing back to beat a bigger program in Georgia Tech the last time.
Southern Miss, pulled a ‘polar-opposite’ by getting routed by South Carolina 41-13 in its opener before bouncing back to lay the smackdown on tiny Prarie View last weekend.
Haiving said all of this, I really believe Turner Gill’s Kansas Jayhawks are going to give the Southern Miss Golden Eagles all they can handle while cover the lines on this college football affair as a 6-point road underdog.
Southern Miss has gone just 1-4 ATS in their last five non-conference games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games in the month of September.
I like Kansas to give the Golden Eagles’ freshman quarterback a tough way to go en route to a solid ATS victory while pushing the Golden Eagles for the outright win.
