Light Of A Star Might Offer Overlaid Horse Race Betting Odds

September 25, 2010

The machine that is 4-year-old filly Light Of A Star might offer overlaid horse race betting odds to win the 10th at Fairplex Park on Friday, Sept. 24th.

After being claimed by Gary Stute at Del Mar, Light Of A Star has already run 2nd in a $40,000 Allowance Optional Claimer at the Fairplex meet. Now, Stute and Light Of A Star will shoot for the victory in the 10th at Fairplex on Friday.

Is she a good bet to win the 10th?

Allowance Optional Claiming $40,000

Purse $33,000. (Plus $9,900 – CBOIF – California Bred Owner Fund). For Fillies And Mares Three-Years-Old And Upward Which Have Never Won $10,000 Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Or Starter Or Claiming Price $40,000.

6 ½ furlongs over dirt

7 – Light Of A Star – - 4/1 morning line odds

This filly proved that she never should have been running in those $8,000 races before Stute put her into that state-bred optional claiming $40,000 in her last. Her second place finish in that $40,000 optional claimer was ultra-impressive considering that she did all of the running and still managed to hold off the entire field save for the chalk. Light Of A Star should jump right out to the lead in this, like she did in her last race. I expect her to hold on for the victory this time. If she’s anywhere close to her morning line horse race betting odds of 4/1 before the gates open, she deserves to be bet to win.

4 – Jaws N’ Paws – - 3/1 morning line odds

Jockey Martin Pedroza changed tactics on this guy in his first race at Fairplex, a $32,000 claimer on Sept. 18th. Instead of hanging behind the speed, Pedroza took Jaws N’ Paws directly to the lead right out of the gate. The horse went on to win the race by 2 ½ lengths. Pedroza won’t be aboard Jaws N’ Paws on Friday but jockey Paul Atkinson is plenty talented enough to get Jaws N’ Paws to the winner’s circle first. The daughter of Onebadshark is the biggest danger to Light Of A Star.

3- Paleo – - 9/2 morning line odds

Trainer Doug O’Neil’s win percentage at the Fairplex meet is at 32%. Paleo is definitely the classiest horse in this race, she won a 6 ½ furlong race over the turf at the $50,000 claiming level at Santa Anita in March, and should be okay on the switch from turf to dirt since O’Neil wins at a 20% clip with the move. Paleo will need Jaws N’ Paws and Light Of A Star to hook up in a speed duel in order to win this, but that’s a distinct possibility. At the likely overlaid horse race betting odds, Paleo is yet another that horseplayers must consider for a win bet.

Horse Wagering Strategy

Based on the fact that other good horses have shown up for the 10th at Fairplex on Friday, my belief is that Light Of A Star will keep her morning line odds.

I will bet on Light Of A Star to win and place. I will also bet an exacta with Light Of A Star over Jaws N’ Paws and Paleo. I will reverse the exacta for less.

Good luck!
