LeBron Seizing His Destiny in 2009 Playoffs
May 13, 2009
Let’s face it, we’ve never seen a physical specimen like LeBron before. He stand 6-foot-8 and weighs nearly 260 pounds. The boy from Oak Hill Academy has become “The King” at the age of 24. As the league’s third youngest league MVP, LeBron has become a force of nature that few people can keep up with.
To my knowledge there are only three guys in the league who can contain LeBron. Paul Pierce proved that he was capable of showing up against LeBron in the playoffs last year. Kobe has been LeBron’s nemesis since he came in to the league. And Dwyane Wade is doing what he can with a rough roster in South Beach. But none of them – NONE – can do what LeBron has done.
The Cavs have posted eight straight double digit victories, going 8-0 SU and pulling out the broom in two straight playoff series. Have they been tested? No. Can anyone test them in the Eastern Conference. In my mind, only the Celtics can. King James leads the Cavs with 32.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists in the postseason. He’s made it loud and clear that nobody is standing in his way en route to an NBA Championship.
It’s almost impossible to imagine anyone in the East stopping LeBron and the Cavs. James has some serious backing this time around, especially with Mo Williams running the point. Williams has put up 14.8 points per game, and has been critical in relieving the defensive pressure that LeBron usually has to face. With so many scoring threats on Cleveland, teams have to spread out their defenses. Detroit wasn’t able to contain No. 23 or the Cavs. Atlanta, a far better team with superior depth wasn’t remotely competing with the Cavs.
Orlando and Boston are obviously fare better than Detroit or Atlanta. Whichever team emerges from that semi-final matchup will have a very tough challenge. The team that Cleveland doesn’t want to face is Boston, but at the same time, revenge will be a key element for them. Cavs’ betting fanatics will be unsure of how LeBron will fare against Paul Pierce, also known as The Truth. This season, LeBron averaged 27-6-6 against the Celtics, going 2-2 SU against the defending champions. With KG, however, this would be an epic battle. Without him, I don’t know if Paul Pierce has the backing to get the job done.
Whatever your stance is on LeBron, we are watching a legend in the making. The MVP award was just the start. Those of you that took the Cavs at 15-1 NBA odds to win the NBA Championship are laughing right now. Cleveland stands at -130 right now in our NBA Futures, so even our oddsmakers consider the Cavs the favorite to win at this point. There’s tremendous value out there (Denver stands at +800) but if you’re looking to win a future bet this NBA season the Cavs are the team to lean on.
We are all witnesses.
