Latest NFL Odds – Battle of the Backup Quarterbacks
September 19, 2010
Kevin Kolb and Matthew Stafford were both knocked out of their games last week and the Latest NFL odds reflect the notion that Michael Vick will start for Philadelphia on Sunday. With Kolb as the starter I believe that the spread would be much larger. Both teams are banged up and will be looking to simply survive Week 2.

With Kevin Kolb unable to pass the concussion tests all attention shifts to Michael Vick to start at quarterback for the Eagles this week. What he brings to a game is very different from what Kolb brings. It could be boom or bust for Philadelphia this week.
Besides Kolb, the Eagles lost their starting fullback Leonard Weaver and starting center, Jamaal Jackson. The Eagles offense appears to be in shambles. For Vick, this represents an opportunity to prove the haters wrong. He passed for 175 yards and a touchdown while adding 103 yards on the ground last week against a pretty good defense. If LeSean McCoy plays like he did last week, expect Vick to lead the Eagles in rushing again.
If Vick is just OK against Detroit Lions, his defense will do the rest. They were terrific last week and held Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers offense down.
There is a reason why the decimated Philadelphia Eagles are 4 ½ point road favorites in the Latest NFL Lines – they are playing an equally banged up Detroit Lions squad. Shaun Hill, ya that Shaun Hill, will start at quarterback in place of the one of only two things that Detroit had going for it – Matt Stafford.
The Lions covered the 6 ½ point spread last week despite a pitiful passing display and an embarrassing running game. Super-rookie Jahvid Best ran 14 times for 20 yards – he did score two touchdowns however.
Detroit’s defense is improves but we all see what Michael Vick can do for a defense. Vick is a matchup nightmare and will continue to be so against a below average Lions defense.
Latest NFL Odds Outlook:
Philadelphia Eagles is 4-0 ATS in the last four meeting between the two but is surprisingly 0-4 ATS in their last four overall. Detroit is 3-7-2 ATS in their last 12 games and that is with Mathew Stafford. I have a feeling that Vick will have a good game on Sunday. Let the quarterback controversy begin.
Latest NFL Odds Pick: Philadelphia Eagles – 4 ½
