Speaking of top spots, with the first installment of the BCS Rankings out this week, it is Oklahoma that is actually on top, despite Oregon being ranked No. 1 in both polls.
Either way, for Oklahoma to get the victory this weekend, they’ll need to be excellent in the passing game. Currently, Oklahoma ranks 12th nationally throwing the ball, averaging 303 yards per game through the air.
The ring-leader of this offense is quarterback Landry Jones, who has been phenomenal so far this year, throwing for 14 touchdowns and 1,791 yards. He is coming off what might be the best game of his young career last week against Iowa State, where he completed 30 of 34 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns.
Not to be outdone, Missouri has a pretty darn good passing game of their own, and as you evaluate the Latest College Football Lines, it may be the Tigers who are your pick.
Blaine Gabbert leads the way for this Missouri team, and like Jones, has been excellent this year, throwing for 1,591 yards and 10 touchdowns, while completing 66 percent of his passes.
His top receiver is T.J. Moe, who ranks eighth in the country, with 50 catches on the season. Incredibly, one of the handful of receivers ahead of Moe in that category is also playing in this game, Oklahoma’s Ryan Broyles. Broyles has 61 catches on the season, which puts him at fourth in the country.
So with each team playing such sound offense, what this game will obviously come down to is defense. Surprisingly, the edge here goes to Missouri.
While Oklahoma may have the bigger names across the board, Missouri has the better unit overall. Can you believe it’s the Tigers that have the second ranked scoring defense in the country? That’s right, Missouri is allowing just 10.8 points per game, which trails only TCU. Maybe even more impressive is how Missouri has fared in Big XII play, allowing just nine combined points in back-to-back wins over Colorado and Texas A&M.
And it’s because of that defense, that Missouri needs to be the pick this weekend in the Latest College Football Lines.
Yes the Tigers competition might not have been great early on, but at the same time, we’re halfway through the season, and Missouri has proven themselves to be one of the elite units in the game. Beyond just the scoring defense, they rank in the Top 30 in rushing defense, allowing just 117 yards per game. If the Tigers can make take star Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray out of the game, and make the Sooners one dimensional, they will spring the upset.
As a matter of fact, that’s exactly what we’re calling for, Missouri to pull the upset Saturday. Oklahoma has played a lot of good teams this season, but not a single one anywhere nearly as talented defensively as the Tigers. Missouri will hold Landry Jones and this offense to their worst game of the season.
With the Latest College Football Lines out, it’s time to get your wagers in.
Make Missouri your upset pick this weekend!
