In the month of June, which shook up college sports and realigned a number of the nation’s major athletic conferences, one of the very biggest public feuds occurred between the University of Texas and the University of Nebraska. While the Longhorns teased much of the college football world with their political jockeying and their faked move to the Pac-10 Conference, Nebraska didn’t waste any time bolting for the Big Ten and leaving the Big 12 in its rearview mirror, in a move that will become effective next year. At a press conference held to announce the move to the Big Ten, Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Athletic Director Tom Osborne – the legendary former coach of the Cornhuskers – both took a number of shots at Texas and indirectly fired a number of salvos at Longhorn Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds. Nebraska never did like the way Texas held sway over the rest of the Big 12 Conference and used its immense resources to gain leverage in various negotiations. Nebraska liked the academics of the Big Ten and felt more at home playing in the Upper Midwest rather than the South Central Plains. With Texas seen as enemy number one in the Big 12, Nebraska – now on its farewell tour of the conference in football – will want to beat Texas with uncommon ferocity. This is what makes this weekend’s game such an event, even though Texas does not bring a particularly good team into battle. The Longhorns have indeed struggled this year, but Nebraska fans don’t care. They want blood this Saturday, and their team will try to satisfy their wishes.

Latest College Football Lines: What Texas Has To Do To Win

The Longhorns have been very anemic this season. The right side of their offensive line has been decimated by injuries, but they also lack an electric running back who can make linebackers miss in the open field. Quarterback Garrett Gilbert has looked very indecisive and unsure of himself despite gaining a great deal of experience in last season’s BCS National Championship Game against Alabama. The Longhorns need to make comprehensive improvements in various facets of competition just to stay somewhat close to the Huskers. Gilbert needs to have the best game of his season and get help from his receivers if Texas is to have a realistic shot at winning this game.

Latest College Football Lines: What Nebraska Has To Do To Win

If Texas is weak up front, Nebraska needs to dominate at the line of scrimmage. As long as quarterback Taylor Martinez doesn’t commit any turnovers – especially in the passing game, where he’s very shaky – Nebraska should be able to rely on its defense, which should limit Texas to nothing more than 14 points at the most. If the Huskers don’t cough up huge plays on special teams or allow Texas to score any defensive touchdowns, they should be in very good shape.

Latest College Football Lines: Outlook & Pick

Texas won’t score any touchdowns on defense or special teams. Nebraska should deliver not a blowout, but a very solid win that will cover the number.

Latest College Football Lines Pick: Nebraska -9.5
