While this rivalry used to be one of the biggest games on the annual college football betting calendar, it’s taken a bit of a backseat this year.
LSU enters this game off a wacky win last weekend over the Tennessee Volunteers, one that truly had to be seen to believed.
Trailing with just seconds to go, LSU tried to run the ball with no timeouts left, and were unable to score. With the Tigers unable to get out of bounds, LSU tried to change its players, but before they could do so, the clock had expired. All assumed that Tennessee was the winner, until they were called for a penalty for too many men on the field. The Tigers got one final play, securing a stunning win in Baton Rouge.
But even in victory, LSU didn’t leave that game without controversy, as they enter their contest in Gainesville with uncertainty at the quarterback position. Jarrett Lee replaced starter Jordan Jefferson late in the Tennessee win, and played almost all of the second half, completing 16 of 23 passes in the process. While it hasn’t been announced officially who’ll get the start Saturday, if it is Jefferson, expect him to have a really short leash.
Still, with all the questions about LSU, there are just as many about Florida, as the latest college football lines would indicate.
The Gators enter this game off maybe the most embarrassing loss of the Urban Meyer era, in a 31-6 defeat at the hands of Alabama last weekend. In the game, the Florida offense couldn’t get anything going, rushing for just 79 yards, and being embarrassed themselves by a Crimson Tide offense that seemed to score at will in the first half.
And it’s because of Florida’s inconsistent offense, that you should take LSU when it comes to the latest college football lines.
Simply put, the Gators still haven’t figured out their offensive situation coming into this one. Quarterback John Brantley is having trouble adjusting his passing skills to this read-option offense, while at the same time, his back-up Trey Burton is much more a runner than passer.
And for all the talk about LSU’s gaffe’s last weekend, they still play excellent defense down on the Bayou. LSU is allowing just 12 points a game on defense, which ranks them No. 5 in the country, and allowing just 246 yards total per game as well, ranking them sixth in scoring defense.
In the end, this one will be low scoring, but LSU will do just enough to cover the points on the road. With the latest college football lines out, make the Tigers your pick.
