Late Night MLB Betting Predictions – Struggling Angels Meet Struggling Mariners

May 7, 2010

Coming off back-to-back series sweeps against Detroit and Boston isn’t exactly how the Los Angeles Angels thought they’d kick start the month of May. But it’s not like the Seattle Mariners thought they’d begin the second month of MLB betting by getting swept by Texas and Tampa Bay either. One thing is for sure – one team is going to get its first win of the month tonight.

The advantage in this series should go to the Angels, considering that they’re 12-6 SU when playing on the road in Seattle. Consider that Seattle has lost six straight home stands, that looks like a baseball betting trend that should continue all things considered.

However, Seattle is sending Felix Hernandez to the mound tonight in hopes of turning around their porous ways. Hernandez has simply been kryptonite for the Angels, going 1-0 SU in two starts and posting a 0.42 ERA against them.

Los Angeles Angels (12-18) vs. Seattle Mariners (11-17)
Friday, May 7th — Safeco Field — 10:10pm EST
MLB Betting Lines:

Jered Weaver – R +1.5 -200 +115 O 6.5 -120
Felix Hernandez – R -1.5 +170 -135 U 6.5 EV

On the season, Hernandez is 2-2 SU in five starts with a 3.10 ERA. He earned those losses in 11.1 innings collective innings, giving up 15 hits and 7 earned runs against the Rangers and Royals. It’s not exactly the kind of production you want to see if you’re the club that doubled his salary for 2010 and expected Hernandez to be the one-two punch alongside Cliff Lee.

Countering for the Angels will be Jered Weave, a right handed pitcher who can very much keep this game close. After earning three wins in five starts, Weaver was lit up by Detroit for 7 hits in 4.2 innings, giving up 4 runs in the process. This season he has a collective ERA of 3.19.

Where To Watch: FSW, FSNW

Since Weaver is 3-1 SU in his last five starts against the Seattle Mariners, this game is a very tight one to call. The Mariners need to rally the troops at home, and you’d expect the Angels to be exhausted after spending the past week on the east coast and then travelling back west. If you handed me two rosters and asked which one I expected to turn the clock back after brutal series sweeps, it would be the Angels hands down.

The Mariners have averaged just 1.8 runs per game over the last five, while the Angels are at least managing to get in scoring position. They have 3.4 runs per game in their last 5 losses. This will be a topsy-turvy series, but the Angels at least can start fresh in a new venue. The Mariners will continue to lose at home.

The runline is going to be a very queasy bet, but the ML for the Angles has great value. Take the road dogs and start your Friday night off right.
