Lakers Giving Up Too Many Points in NBA Betting vs. Jazz
January 25, 2011
The L.A. Lakers are simply giving up too many points to the Utah Jazz in the NBA sportsbook on Tuesday, January 25th.
Kobe’s team is offering up 7 ½ points to the Jazz. What’s the reason for it? The Jazz has lost 4 straight games and are on the tail end of a 5-game road trip. Will the Lakers add to Utah’s woes? Possibly. Will Kobe and L.A. cover the spread in the sports book? Uh…no. Keep reading to find out why.

Check out some trends for this game.
- The Utah Jazz is 0 and 4 ATS in their last 4 road games.
- The Utah Jazz is 2 and 5 ATS in the last 7 meetings.
- The Los Angeles Lakers are 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite of 5 to 10 ½ points.
- The Los Angeles Lakers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS victory.
The Jazz is reeling. There’s no doubt about that, but I still maintain that they are a much better team, both against the spread and versus the NBA moneyline odds, than they’ve shown in their last 4. Utah could very well upset the L.A. Lakers on Tuesday night because the Jazz matches up well with L.A.’s terrific front court.
Besides Deron Williams doing his thing, the Utah point-guard is averaging a terrific 21.7 points and 9.5 assists per game, the Jazz’s Al Jefferson, Paul Milsap and Mehmet Okur are perfectly capable of defending Lakers’ center Andrew Bynum, and L.A. forward’s Ron Artest and Pau Gasol. Bynum, Gasol and Artest accounted for 55 of the Lakers 107 points in L.A.’s 107 to 97 victory.
L.A. begins a 5-game home stand on Tuesday night versus the Utah Jazz. The Lakers have split their last 4 games, beating both the Oklahoma City Thunder, 101 to 94, and the Denver Nuggets, 107 to 97, and losing to the Los Angeles Clippers, 92 to 99, and the Dallas Mavericks 100 to 109. L.A. looks great one day and bad the next and their 9 and 13 record against the NBA betting spread at home should give basketball wagering fans looking to back them a reason to be concerned.
Utah has gone 3 and 12 against the spread in their last 15 games. Obviously, backing Utah in their last 15 would have led to a one way ticket to the poor house, but the Jazz went 10 and 5 against the spread in their previous 15. So, there is history there telling bettors that the Jazz, who are still averaging more points per game, 100.1, than they are allowing, 98.9, can turn it around.
I’ve got to believe that Coach Jerry Sloan is going to have Deron and the fellas fired up versus the L.A. Lakers on Tuesday night. I see Utah doing whatever it can in order to win the game. They might come up short in the win department, but I do believe they will keep the margin to under 7 ½ points.
They’re the pick to cover the spread against the L.A. Lakers on Jan. 25th.
