Kentucky is Close to a 25 Point College Football Game Lines Favorite

September 11, 2010

The Kentucky Wildcats are close to a 25-point college football game lines favorite against Western Kentucky this Saturday, Sept. 11th.

The Wildcats beat rival Louisville 23 to 16 as 3-point favorites last week.  Now, they get what some sports gamblers might consider a reprieve having to face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 49 to 10 losers to the Nebraska Cornhuskers last Saturday.

Beating Western Kentucky shouldn’t be an issue for the Wildcats.  Will covering the huge college football game lines spread be?

NCAAF Betting Lines

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers           +24 ½  -110

Kentucky Wildcats                             -24 ½  -110

Based on the betting trends, this game should be a toss up when it comes to the spread.

  • The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
  • The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are 4 and 1 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
  • The Kentucky Wildcats are 20 and 8 ATS in their last 28 games in September.
  • The Kentucky Wildcats are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.

Kentucky could suffer a bit of a let down after beating their biggest non-conference rival in Louisville last week, but I doubt it.  The Wildcats defense is what stands out from that game.  Although Louisville amassed 317 total yards, 190 of them rushing, Kentucky kept the Cardinals to only 16 points.

On the flip side, the Wildcats amassed 466 total yards and they were balanced doing it with 236 yards through the air and 230 yards on the ground.  If it weren’t for 11 penalties for 90 yards, the Wildcats might have beaten the Cardinals by much more than 7 points.

In any case, Kentucky appears to be a solid offensive team with an improving defense.  They should have no trouble racking up points against Western Kentucky who allowed Nebraska freshman QB Taylor Martinez to torch them for 127 yards on the ground last Saturday. Kentucky’s rushing game should absolutely dominate the Hilltoppers defense.

That’s the main reason why the Wildcats, who beat Western Kentucky foe Miami Ohio 42 to 0 last season, will cover the spread on Saturday.  Although the college football game lines of 24 ½ points seems like a lot, it really isn’t.  Western Kentucky has now lost 21 games in a row and Kentucky’s offense is very good.

In fact, it might be better than Nebraska’s at this point.  The Wildcats should destroy the Hilltoppers in this game.
