To expand on the Chiefs playoff implications a little more as they already own home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.  The Chiefs can clinch the third seed in the AFC Playoffs meaning they will avoid a dreaded matchup with the New England Patriots until the Conference Championships should they make it that far.

KC will play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens or the New York Jets. Any way you play it, it’s a tough opening round game.

The New Arrowhead stadium has been a safe bastion for the Chiefs this season as they can clinch a perfect home record with a win over the Oakland Raiders this season.

The Oakland Raiders are 7-8 on the season but in the AFC West, they’ve dominated by winning all six games so far. If they beat the Chiefs in week 17, the Raiders will be the first team to sweep their division and miss the playoffs, since the league went to the divisional format in 1967.

When these two teams played in Oakland the Raiders won a 23-20 thriller in overtime after four lead changes and a last second field goal by Sebastian Janikowski.

This time things should be different. The Chiefs have been unbeatable at home using a combination of brilliant running and excellent chemistry between QB Matt Cassel and Dwayne Bowe. Bowe along with Jamaal Charles and Brian Waters were voted to the 2011 Pro-Bowl team. What’s surprising about the selections is no player on the Chiefs defense is making the trip to Hawaii. If anyone should it would have been linebacker Tamba Hali, Hali has 12 sacks and four forced fumbles in 15 games this season.

The Raiders dominance in their division is a little inexplicable as they gone 1-7 against the rest of the teams on their schedule.

Look for the Chiefs to protect their house and exploit the Raiders 29th ranked running defense with their league best run offense.

There are a lot of bad games without any playoff implications during week 17 but this AFC Clash should be one of the best on Sunday.
