Jets Ready to Punish Green Bay as Football Betting Favorites

October 31, 2010

LaDainian Tomlinson and the New York Jets are ready to get back to work as football betting favorites after a bye week that allowed a lot of their players to get healthy.

LT has been having such a great season, after a disastrous season with the San Diego Chargers last year, that many football fans are calling him an NFL MVP candidate. The Jets’ D is just as stingy as it was in 2009 and QB Mark Sanchez has turned into one of the better signal callers in the NFL.

But the Jets take on a Packers’ team coming off of a big victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Can the Jets start out their after-bye season with a victory both straight up and against the football betting spread?

NFL Betting Line

Green Bay Packers +6 -110 O 42 ½ -110
New York Jets -6 -110 U 42 ½ -110

The football betting trends favor both teams in this game.

  • The Green Bay Packers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games on field turf.
  • The Green Bay Packers are 21-10-1 ATS in their last 32 games on the road.
  • The New York Jets are 7 and 1 ATS in their last 8 games following a bye week.
  • The New York Jets are 6 and 1 ATS versus a team with a winning record.

The Packers were very good last week when beating Minnesota 28 to 24 as 2 ½ point home favorites. Green Bay played an excellent game against a good Minnesota offense.

But the offense Green Bay’s D faces on Sunday is much better than Minnesota’s. The Jets have become one of the better offensive teams the NFL.

With LT in the backfield, Dustin Keller at tight end and Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards at wide receiver, the Jets have big time weapons for QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez only needs to stay out of trouble in order to help the Jets’ win games.

He’s starting to remind a lot of football fans of former Dallas Cowboys QB Troy Aikman who never posted great numbers but always got his team to win. Sanchez has thrown only 9 TD passes and 1100 yards this season but he’s also thrown only 2 picks. He should be even more efficient this Sunday.

Green Bay’s offense might have some trouble trying to move the ball against the Jet’s D. The football betting odds makers must have taken into account the fact that Green Bay is a one-note team, rushing for less than 100 yards and passing for 250 yards per game, when creating the wagering spread.

Being one-note is not the way to score points against a Jets’ D that returns a healthy Darrelle Revis. With Revis at one cornerback position and Antonio Cromartie at the other, the Jets are going to bring some serious pressure to Rodgers who has been sacked 11 times in the last 4 games.

To me, that’s the key to this game. Taking the Green Bay Packers on the football betting line makes no sense because they do not have a good enough running game to keep the Jets’ defenders honest.

With the ability to play man-to-man defense on the Packers’ receivers, the Jets’ should be able to blitz Rodgers with abandon. That will leave Green Bay looking for answers on the offensive side of things.

I have to go with the 5 and 1 New York Jets to cover against the football betting spread in their game versus the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 30th.

NCAAF Betting Pick: New York Jets -6 -110
