Interleague MLB Betting Picks – Jays Seek Second Win Against Padres

June 15, 2010

The San Diego Padres are facing a dogfight in the NL West, where they stand with just a half-game lead over the Dodgers and Giants.

That lead could shrivel if they continue to struggle against the Blue Jays, who notched a 6-3 victory on Monday night to open the interleague MLB betting series.

The Blue Jays backers will hope that their team is turning a corner as they fall behind in the AL East standings.

Toronto will send sterling ace Brett Cecil to the mound, where the left-hander can pick up his sixth consecutive victory. Cecil has been a shining light on a questionable rotation that lost Doc Halladay over the winter last year.

With a 3.22 ERA, a polished 7-2 SU record and just 23 runs allowed in 64.1 innings, Cecil has become a darling for the Blue Jays.

It also helps the faith that Toronto is 8-2 SU when Cecil starts at the mound. The Jays will be looking to correct the balance of a 2-7 SU streak in their last 9 road games.

Toronto Blue Jays (35-30) vs. San Diego Padres (37-27)

Tuesday, June 15th — PETCO Park — 10:05pm EST

MLB Betting Lines:

TOR – Brett Cecil (L) +1.5 -210 EV O 6.0 -105

SD – Matt Latos (R) -1.5 +175 -120 U 6.0 -115

As Toronto sends their best to the mound, so will San Diego, who are dispatching Matt Latos in tonight’s game. With 53 hits and 26 earned runs against in 72.1 innings, Latos has picked up a 6-4 SU record in 12 starts giving up a 3.24 ERA on the season.

The Padres are 7-5 SU when he starts overall, and there are a lot of questions on whether Latos can weather the storm of Toronto’s pesky home-run bats. This will be his first start against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Where To Watch: RSN, CH4

Almost every team in the MLB betting circle is allowed to slump, but it’s a different story for Toronto. They simply can’t afford to give up losses as the Yankees, Rays and Red Sox pull away in the division.

With the bats of Aaron Hill and John Buck returning to form in the opener against San Diego, your money is in safe hands as Toronto decimates the home favorites with a second victory. Don’t bet against Cecil at this point in the MLB betting season.
