Indianapolis vs Tennessee – NFL Sportsbook

December 9, 2010

The Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has looked just awful in the past few weeks. He’s thrown 11 interceptions in the Colts last three games, all losses.

In fact, the Colts have lost 4 of their past 5 games but that hasn’t swayed the NFL sports book bettors this Thursday night when the Colts are in Nashville to take on the Tennessee Titans. The Colts line has already moved ½ and could move more before game time.

The Indianapolis Colts have the longest current consecutive playoff streak as they’ve made the postseason eight straight seasons. That’s all in jeopardy if the Colts don’t figure a way out of their current funk. With four games remaining, the best the Colts can hope for is a 10-6 record; that could earn them a way into the NFC playoffs but in the tougher AFC, 10-6 will earn you extra time off.

The Colts have had to deal with injuries most of the season but the biggest loss was Manning’s go to guy, Dallas Clark. The loss of Clark meant Manning had to rely on new receivers unfamiliar with the Colts intricate route running, any misstep and as we’ve seen lately, the ball land in an opponent’s hands.

Thursday night, the Colts face a team in a bigger free fall than their own. The Tennessee Titans have lost five straight games, they’ve lost their starting quarterback Vince Young to an “injury” and 2,000 yard rusher in 2009, Chris Johnson has just now managed to crack 1000 yards.

Johnson’s hangover is typical of backs who top 370 carries the previous season. Johnson rushed 358 times last year and had another 50 receptions. Take away his 16 touchdowns and he was tackled 392 times last season, including times he ran out of bounds. That’s a ton of punishment for even the best backs to take.

The Titans will have veteran QB Kerry Collins under center. Last week, Collins was 14 for 32 for 169 yards and two interceptions against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He likely won’t fair much better against the Colts fourth best pass defense.

The only hope the Titans have is against the Colts 4th worst rush defense, which is giving up 142.8 yards on the ground.

Double check the NFL sports book lines before you make your bet but as long as you can get Colts -3, you should be ok. Johnson will need the offseason to recover from the mileage he put on his legs last year. Manning and the Colts aren’t giving up on the season yet but it’s seems like the Titans are playing some “Let’s get Fisher Fired” football.

NFL Pick: Colts -3
