Indian Premier League Betting – Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Daredevils
April 12, 2010
With just three regular season Indian Premier League (IPL) matches remaining and a semi-final spot already assured, the Mumbai Indians will be using this hit out against the Delhi Daredevils as a way to build momentum and exorcise demons of the past.
In both previous years Mumbai has faltered at the business end of the season. In 2008 they dropped three of their last four games and last season they lost their last three fixtures ending whatever hope they had of finals glory.
Indian Premier League Betting Odds
Tuesday, April 13, (6am EST) 4pm Mumbai Local Time
Mumbai Indians -125
Delhi Daredevils -105
This time around however they are a team that exudes confidence, the IPL cricket betting lines showing them as clear favorites at -125 while Delhi are ranked at good priced outsiders at -105.
The man behind the revival is arguably India’s greatest ever batsmen Sachin Tendulkar.
Tendulkar’s 512 tournament runs have come at an average of 56.88 and a blistering strike rate of 139.50 his four man of the match awards following innings of 63 off 32 balls, 71 not out off 48 balls, 72 off 52 balls and a last outing against Rajasthan Royals of 89 not out off 59 balls.
It is clear from these figures that Tendulkar is happy to place himself in the top order as an anchor, a point to which his team can rely on and base themselves around.
Instead of taking a cavalier approach like many of the young breed of batsmen at this IPL, Tendulkar is using his wealth of experience against the best players in the world to lay a solid foundation.
In the field he hasn’t been scared to experiment – he has thrown the new ball on occasion to fellow international off spinner Harbhajan Singh and his rotation of quicks has been admirable.
If Delhi is to prove overcome their underdog’s status they will need to ensure that Tendulkar’s impact is nullified early, something they were unable to do in their March 17 IPL clash when the little maestro again top scored with 63 off 32 deliveries.
Dirk Nannes and Farveez Maharoof both unable to dislodge him and bowling the wrong lines outside off stump to a batsmen who excels back of square leg and through the covers.
To be fair though the bowlers were lucky not to have experienced more pain at the hands of Tendulkar who can step across his stumps and whip the ball through the leg side with consummate brutality.
Delhi’s batsmen capitulated in their last outing against Kings XI Punjab with only two batsmen breaking the 20-runs barrier and only four hitting double figures to be all out for 111.
Like has been proven in most IPL matches this season, there is no such thing as a safe total but anything that is 170-plus should keep this game competitive however the likes of Amit Mishra and Maharoof will need to find the edges if they are to keep their IPL tournament alive.
