Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Game-day: 5/5/2009
First-pitch: 7:05 pm est.
The Brewers take on the Pirates with one team ranked in the MLB Power Rankings. That would be the Pirates who are 12 and 13 straight-up but 16 and 9 on the run line for +800 units. They send pitcher Ian Snell to the mound. Snell has a decent ERA at 3.72 but his 1 and 3 record isn’t so hot. His WHIP of 1.62 won’t get it done in most cases either.
Milwaukee counters with pitcher Jeff Suppan. Suppan is having an awful year ERA wise with an earned run average of 5.88 and his record of 1 and 2 isn’t that fantastic but he actually has a better WHIP at 1.46 than Ian Snell.
Here is the BetOnline online sportsbook MLB betting line for this game:
Milwaukee Brewers
Jeff Supan – R -1 ½ +150 -115 O 9 -105
Pittsburgh Pirates
Ian Snell – R +1 ½ -170 -105 U 9 -115
Here are a few online MLB wagering trends for this game:
The Milwaukee Brewers are 5 and 1 in their last 6 games on the road.
The Milwaukee Brewers are 4 and 0 in Jeff Suppan’s last 4 starts on the road as the favorite.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are 1 and 4 in Ian Snell’s last 5 starts.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are 0 and 5 in their last 5 games with umpire Jeff Nelson behind home plate.
The Pirates lost the first game of this two game series 7 to 4. Milwaukee is only 14 and 12 straight-up, but they do have more of an upside than the Pirates who could lose quite a few games in a row with the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets coming up.
Pittsburgh is fantastic on the run line, but not so hot ATS, which is the same as betting the money line in baseball. They’ve gone 3 and 7 straight-up in their last 10 games. That makes them a tough bet in this at -105.
I’m going to stick with the trends and stick with the fact that the Pirates are just losing straight-up in games.
I’ll be making a wager on Milwaukee to simply win this game after nine innings at the odds of -115 in the sportsbook.
