Horse Racing Sportsbook – Lock in on Horse Betting Odds for This Saturday’s Dwyer Stakes

May 8, 2010

One of the key prep races for the 2010 Belmont Stakes, and possibly the 2010 Preakness Stakes depending on how brave the connections of the winner will be, will be run at Big Sandy, that’s Belmont Park, on Saturday.

The Dwyer Stakes could lead to 2, perhaps 3, potential starters for the Belmont in roughly 4 weeks. It makes sense for horseplayers to definitely watch the race. It also makes sense for horseplayers to bet the race in the horse racing sportsbook and lock into what figure to be terrific horse odds on the pony they like win the Dwyer.

Belmont Park: Dwyer Stakes

When: 5/8/2010

** Horse betting odds listed current in sportsbook as of this writing

  1. Carnivore +1000 – - This colt out of Giant’s Causeway could get brave on the front end but more than likely will start to fade at the top of the stretch. He just doesn’t seem fast enough to handle this group and hasn’t taken a significant step forward since his second lifetime race. Pass.
  1. Drosselmeyer +200 – - If you like him, jump on the 2 to 1 odds in the sportsbook. He’s going to go off at 8 to 5 or worse in this race because he has the best connections, he’s trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Kent Desormeaux, finished 3rd in the Grade II Louisiana Derby in his last, and has the best speed figures out every horse in this race.
  1. Turf Melody +1200 – - He could surprise but more than likely he just doesn’t get there. He has no early speed to speak of and can’t close as well as Drosselmeyer. That’s why he’s 12 to 1 in the sportsbook right now. I’m not sure what he’s doing in this race as he’s lost by 25 total lengths in his last 3 races.
  1. Soaring Empire +500 – - He’s go the right to improve but it’s disturbing that an Empire Maker horse out of an A.P. Indy mare didn’t fire in the Florida Derby and faded to lose by 14 lengths. Maybe, he’s one of those regally bred horses that can’t run a lick on the track.
  1. Remand +300 – - That was one nice race this guy ran chasing Eightyfiveandafifty and Hurricane Ike in the Grade III Bay Shore in his last. He finished 3rd, 5 lengths behind Eightyfiveandafifty, but that’s okay. Nobody was going to beat the winner that day and this fella might actually improve stretching out to 1 1/8 miles.
  1. Codoy +1500 – - There are some things to like about this Bernstein sired colt. He gets blinkers back, a 50% winning move out of 4 races for his trainer, has shown some speed and is trying dirt for the first time. If he takes to it, he could surprise.
  1. Fly Down +300 – - The connections of Ice Box, Nick Zito trains and Jose Lezcano rides, will be looking for improvement from this son of Mineshaft that had to steady nearing the drive in the Grade II Louisiana Derby and lost no chance at the victory. This is a seriously good racehorse that appears to be on the right track. He also doesn’t face anybody better than him on paper in this race and should be in a good position to out kick or hold off Drosselmeyer. He’s the pick.
    • Fly Down +300
    • Drosselmeyer +200
    • Remand +300
