Horse Racing Pick – Mountaineer Racetrack – Race 8

March 3, 2009

Tuesday is usually a great day for BetOnline online racebook fans to look for a winner in a
race at the Mountaineer Racetrack in West Virginia.

While other tracks are dark on Tuesdays, Mountaineer usually offers a full race card. Nine races is not out of the question for a Tuesday card at Mountaineer.

The pick of the day for Tuesday comes out of the 8th race at Mountaineer.

Let’s analyze the race.

Mountaineer Racetrack – Race 8

Claiming $15,000 n2L

For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Up

5 ½ furlongs on dirt

Milwaukee Queen – 4/1 morning line odds

This daughter of Milwaukee Brew brokered her maiden victory in her second life time start by tracking a fast pace and then taking over in the lane. That was a very professional win. She garnered a terrific speed rating for her effort and she should be able to carry it over to a victory in her first start versus winners in the 8th at Mountaineer on Tuesday. The maiden victory at Turfway Park was against much better opposition. She has a huge shot in this.

Wild Prayer – 7/2 morning line odds

Like Milwaukee Queen, Wild Prayer broke her maiden in her second lifetime race. Unlike Milwaukee Queen, Wild Prayer broke her maiden on the front end by taking the lead shortly after the gates opened and cruising to a 12 length win. Could Wild Prayer lead gate to wire again? Possibly, but there’s other speed in this.

Spontaneous Diva – 9/2 morning line odds

The move up from $10,000 claimers to this $15,000 level may work against Spontaneous Diva, but it will be Diva’s second race off of a layoff. She could improve. If she does, then she will probably be sitting in the catbird seat as they turn for home.
Wagering Strategy

Milwaukee Queen looks like a solid bet to win and place. I will also use Milwaukee Queen, Spontaneous Diva and Wild Prayer in an exacta and trifecta box.
