Horse Racing – Full Betting Card from Aqueduct Racetrack
February 4, 2010
Padding Your Bankroll: Thursday February 4
Thursday’s nine race card at Aqueduct looks challenging, with four maiden races on the menu, with several beatable favorites, and a Late Pick 3 that looks very playable.
The play of the day is one of the maiden races, a bottom level $12,500 maiden claimer in which our top pick raced against the track bias last out and figures to be a decent price today.
Illegal Search not only raced against the bias, she was stuck behind horses in the stretch and really did not have anywhere to run until it was too late. The filly ended up short by a half length for the victory.
The Gary Contessa trainee looks like good value if we see close to her 5/1 morning line.
The Late Pick 3 at Aqueduct includes three wide open races, and it looks like we can beat the likely favorite in all three legs of the sequence, which could lead to a generous payoff with our $24 investment.
Today’s Play of the Day from Aqueduct:
AQU Race 6 Md $12,500 (2:52 ET)
#2 Illegal Search 5/1
#7 Little Alex 5/2
#6 Dontquityourdayjob 4/1
#5 Eddie’s Point 6/1
Analysis: #2 Illegal Search was a solid runner up last out. The filly fell back entering the far turn and looked done, then made a good rally in the stretch only to get stuck behind a wall of horses at the eighth pole. Cohen finally found a seem too late and he came up a half length short to a gate to wire winner over a slightly speed favoring racing strip. The filly should get a lively pace to run at here and just needs a better trip and ride from Cohen.

#7 Little Alex came with a mild late run while wide to check in fourth last out versus $10K maidens. Two back off the bench the gelding came up the rail with a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot. The gelding looks primed for a good effort here in his third start of his current form cycle. The gelding is a half to stakes winner Supreme Discovery ($221K).
Wagering
WIN: #2 t win at 3/1 or better.
EX: 2,7 / 2,5,6,7
TRI: 2,7 / 2,5,6,7 / 1,2,3,5,6,7
Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct:
Starting in Race 7: $1: 2,4,9 / 6,8 / 3,6,7,8 = $24
AQU Race 7 Clm $20,000N1Y (3:20 ET)
#4 All in No Outs, #9 Air Lord, #2 Fuhrever Dancing
#4 All in No Outs made a good late rally to finish third last out in his first go off a nearly a six month layoff. The gelding caught an inner surface that was playing to inside speed. The six year old gets an extra 70 yards to run them down and has run well on the inner in the past (8-2-3-2). The gelding should be fitter second off the bench and figures to be a fair price in this spot for a sharp barn.
#9 Air Lord made a good late run to finish in the runner up spot last out against $10K non winners of a race in six months. The gelding won his last two starts before hitting the bench, beating $40K and $35K claimers. He was claimed out of his last outing by the Maker barn that is 29% winners first off the claim. He steps up from $10K to $20K but is still facing non winners of a race in six months.
AQU Race 8 Alw $41,000N1X (3:49 ET)
#6 Honeymoon Suite, #8 Imthequeenofqueens
#6 Honeymoon Suite was the beaten fav last out, making a good late rally to come up three lengths shy of the top spot over a racing strip that was playing to inside speed. The mare was claimed out of the race by the Contessa barn that is 15% winners first off the claim. The mare sheds a few pounds picking up Serpa and looks ready for a good one here in her third start since arriving from Canada.
#8 Imthequeenofqueens just missed last out, coming up a neck short at the wire as the beaten chalk. Two back over a muddy track Ramon sent her, setting the early fractions before weakening to finish fourth. Note the jock lands with the Asmussen runner here, which is not that surprising although he does win at a high % for Parisella. She catches a pretty weak group of state breds here but the 2/1 ML seems a bit on the light side.
AQU Race 9 Clm $15,000B (4:18 ET)
#3 Gin Tango, #8 Queen of Protocol, #6 Crafty Shocked, #7 Mustang Fever
#3 Gin Tango chased the early pace and could not get to the winner in the stretch, hanging on for second over Royal Vision, and fourth place finisher Carlyn Darlyn both came back to win their next starts. The filly is exiting an open $10K claimer and facing state bred non winners of three here.
#8 Queen of Protocol did not fire last out for a $25K tag and drops into a softer spot here facing NY breds for a $15K tag. Two back this guy came up the inside with a good late run to finish in the runner up spot. A repeat of that effort here puts him in the mix.
Price Plays:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
