Horse Racing – Daily Horse Matchup Picks for August 6th

August 7, 2010

One of the great things about the sportsbook is that horseplayers don’t have just bet on ponies to win, place, show or create crazy exotic wagers.  Horseplayers can also take advantage of betting horses in the Daily Horse Matchups.

Below are free horse racing picks in the Daily Horse Matchups for Del Mar tonight.  Del Mar racing doesn’t start until 7:00 pm EST.

Daily Horse Matchups

Race 1 – 11:00 pm EST

Amazombie -135 vs. Sky Victor +105

Sky Victor has a much better shot in this race to just beat Amazombie than the odds would indicate.  I have to believe that jockey Victor Espinoza will get Sky Victor in a great position as they turn for home.  Also, Amazombie might not have time to make up ground in this 5 furlong turf sprint.

Pick:  Sky Victor

Race 2 – 7:30 pm EST

Russian River -120 vs. American Story -110

Russian River goes first time for trainer Mike Mitchell but hasn’t run since January.  He also has to break from the rail. American Story is a first time starter out of the Bob Baffert barn, was purchased for $400,000 and that’s a big price for a frugal guy like Baffert, and shows okay works.  Most importantly, Ghostzapper sired American Story.

Winning Pick:  American Story

Race 3 – 8:00 pm EST

Melbisha -125 vs. The Great Atlantic -105

Melbisha has a victory and 5 seconds place finishes in her last 6 races and should save ground in this turf race after breaking from the 1 hole.  The Great Atlantic stretches out for jockey Joel Rosario and trainer Mark Glatt but faces other speed in this.  This race appears to set up for Melbisha.

Winning Pick:  Melbisha

Race 4 – 8:30 pm EST

Princess Beau K -125 vs. Mo Cheese -105

Mo Cheese hasn’t run since February of 2009.  I just don’t have faith that trainer Rafael Becerra is going to get this daughter of Momentum ready for this after more than a year on the shelf.  Princess Beau K should be able to beat Mo Cheese on the class drop and after getting Joel Rosario to hop aboard.

Pick:  Princess Beau K

Race 5 – 9:00 pm EST

Pokomoke -120 vs. Twodollarstowin -110

This is an easy one for me.  Pokomoke beat Twodollarstowin the last time the two horses met.  She’s faster and is ready to run her best.  She’s also one of the best free horse racing picks you’re likely to read about today.  I think she not only beats Twodollarstowin but wins the 5th outright.

Winning Pick:  Pokomoke

Race 6 – 9:30 pm EST

Uncle Greg -150 vs. Quinton’s Flash +120

Things should definitely set up for Uncle Greg in this race because of the likely pace, but I believe that Quinton’s Flash has a decent shot of either going gate to wire in this race or tracking or grabbing the garden spot, relaxing, and then getting the jump on Uncle Greg.

Pick:  Quinton’s Flash

Race 7 – 10:00 pm EST

Dawnie Macho -125 vs. Wickedly Perfect -105

This is a great matchup.  Dawnie Macho won the Landaluce Stakes but faces a ton of other early hoof in this.  Wickedly Perfect is going into this off of a maiden victory but is trained by 29% meet winner Doug O’Neil and ridden by Rafael Bejarano.  I’m going with Wickedly Perfect to get the wickedly perfect trip behind the front-runners.

Winning Pick:  Wickedly Perfect

Race 8 – 10:30 pm EST

Pretty Kinzie -175 vs. Sweet Jazzy +145

The odds lead me to consider Sweet Jazzy.  The fact that Pretty Kinzie is a closer and Sweet Jazzy is a front-runner leads me to make a bet on Sweet Jazzy.  This is one of the best bets in the Daily Horse Matchups based on the odds and the fact that Sweet Jazzy could be long gone in this race.

Winning Pick:  Sweet Jazzy
