Horse Racing Betting: Pick 3 from Sunland Park Race 10
Race-day: 2/9/2010
1st Leg at: 6:01 pm EST
With Gulfstream Park, Aqueduct, and Santa Anita Park all dark on Tuesday, horseplayers should turn their attention to what’s going on down in New Mexico. Sunland Park in New Mexico is one of those little known racetracks that sometimes can produce a big time horse.
Don’t believe me? Does the name Mine That Bird ring a bell? Yep. His connections are from New Mexico. They mostly operate out of Sunland Park.
My Pick 3 on Tuesday is at Sunland Park. It starts in Race 10 and ends in Race 12. As always, horseplayers can play this Pick 3 in the BetUS online racebook.
Sunland Park Pick 3
Race 10
Allowance $31,000 n1x For Registered New Mexico Bred Fillies Three Years Old
6 furlongs on dirt
Horses Used: 2-Eminent Move, 4-Sticky Lane, 6-Ondisplay
Analysis: Eminent Move is coming off of a victory at first asking in a maiden claiming $12,500 race. The daughter of Your Eminence was absolutely fantastic when tracking the pace before taking over in the lane and winning by 5 ¾ lengths. She might be that good and this field isn’t all that tough. Sticky Lane could take the lead and keep going just like she did in her first lifetime race on January 17th. She doesn’t exactly need to carve out soft fractions either as she went 22 and 1 and 45 and 3 for the half in her 6 furlong maiden victory. Ondisplay had to go 4 and 5 wide around the turn in her last. She could be much better in this as there doesn’t appear to be any other speed save for Sticky Lane. Two races ago Ondisplay ran a race that would thump these easily.
Race 11
Maiden Claiming $12,500 For Registered Mexico Bred Fillies and Mares Four and Five Years Old
6 furlongs on dirt
Horses Used: 9-Littlebitofagroush, 10-Al’s Double
Analysis: Littlebitofagroush debuts with Lasix and good works for “soft baller” Ralph Black. Black has 2 victories out of only 6 horses saddled during this meet. Overall, Black is winning at a 25% clip in 2010. Al’s Double drops way down in class after running at the state-bred maiden special weight level. Trainer Joel Marr wins with 23% of his 46 to 90 days away horses, 26% with his maiden to maiden claiming horses, and 24% with his first time maiden claimers. Al’s Double has no excuses racing off of the drop.
Race 12
Claiming $5,000 For Four Year Olds and Up
Horses Used: 4-Regal Career, 7-Yes He’s A Pistol, 8-Summer Survivor, 9-Spark of Dubai
Analysis: Regal Career has a victory and 2 seconds on Sunland’s dirt track. Even though he doesn’t have a lot of wins on his record, only 3, he has done very well in the speed department. With some luck, Regal Career could get there. Yes He’s A Pistol goes first time for trainer Justin Evans who wins at 27% off the claim. The horse is 0 for 6 at Sunland but has a nice record of 10-7-10 out of 57 lifetime races. If Evans moves him up, he could win. Summer Survivor is a front runner who could go a long way in this race. The horse’s first race over the Sunland racing strip was promising. Summer Survivor has every right to improve his second time on the Sunland Park track. Spark of Dubai couldn’t do much in its first race for trainer Dick Capellucci when finishing 4th by 8 lengths, but Capellucci is 27% with his second time runners. Maybe, Spark of Dubai turns it around in this race.
Combinations: 3 x 2 x 4 = 24
$1 Pick 3 = $24
