Horse Racing Betting – Pick 3 from New Orleans Fairground

February 1, 2010

Monday might be a dark day for Aqueduct, Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita, but it won’t be for the New Orleans Fairground where racing has improved dramatically since the track reopened in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina.

Jockeys like Patrick Valenzuela and owners like Steve Asmussen have descended upon New Orleans recently. That’s mainly due to the fact that unlike the tracks in SoCal, New Orleans continues to run races over dirt. It makes handicapping somewhat easier in my opinion as well.

The Pick 3 I’m going to play could yield nice profits. Check it out below.

Fairground’s Pick 3

Race 8 (4:37 pm EST)

$25,000 Claiming for Four Year Olds and Up

6 furlongs on dirt

Horses Used: 1-Taleitlikeitain’t, 7-Biglie Smallworld, 8-Pomegranate

Analysis: Taleitlikeitain’t is trained by 27% winner Cody Autrey. The gelding out of Tale Of The Cat has also finished 1 st or 2 nd out of 3 lifetime races on Fairgrounds main track, is 2 for 2 out of 9 lifetime races at the distance and goes into this off of a sterling last race where it finished 2 nd by 1 ¾ lengths. Biglie Smallworld hasn’t run since December of 2009, but that race was at the $40,000 claiming level. The drop to $25,000 should help. The Tom Amoss trained gelding is 5-5-2 out of 14 lifetime races at the distance. Pomegranate is stepping up in class form the $12,500 level. The 4 year old has a legitimate shot in this as he has won 3 out of 6 on Fairgrounds’ main track and gets an outside draw. He’s the upset special in this leg at 10 to 1 on the morning line.

Race 9

Optional Claiming $25,000 nx2 For Accredited LA Breds Four Year Olds and Up

1 mile turf

Horses Used: 2-Oro Tributo, 3-Kiss My Kriss, 7-Rew’s Blues, 9-Leestown Legacy

Analysis: Oro Tribute hasn’t run since July of 2009 but has been in the money in 8 out of its 12 lifetime races. Oro Tribute gets the services of the terrific Shane Sellers and is trained by Troy Young who is winning 31% of his races at the meet. Kiss My Kriss drops into this $25,000 claimer after losing by a combined 25 ¼ lengths in its last two races. The gelding produced a nice speed rating two races ago, however, and is in line to bounce back with a nice effort in this. Rew’s Blues was absolutely terrific closing into a slow pace in a 5 ½ furlong race on the turf in its last. That victory should set it up well in this. Jockey Graham takes the call again. Leestown Legacy drops to a level where it can be competitive after running in state-bred stakes races in its last two. Jockey Robby Albarado knows the Fairgrounds turf track as well as anybody and Legacy’s odds of 6 to 1 on the morning line make it an overlay.

Race 10

Claiming $7500 n3L For Accredited LA Bred Four Year Olds and Up

1 mile and 40 yards on dirt

Horses Used: 3-Ricky Bobby, 11-Mission Possible

Analysis: Ricky Bobby will try to shake and bake its way into the winner’s circle in this after just missing by 2 ¾ lengths in its last. Bobby has 2 victories and 3 seconds out of 8 lifetime races and has 1 victory and 2 seconds out of 4 lifetime races at this distance. Jockey Trey Agilar figures to keep Bobby about 3 lengths off of the pace in this. Mission Possible drew off by 7 lengths in its last, a $5,000 claimer at this distance on this track. Jockey Patrick Valenzuela is one of the best to ever ride a racehorse. He’ll make sure that Possible isn’t compromised by the post-position. Possible’s 2 victories and 1 second out of 4 lifetime races on Fairgrounds’ main track should give horseplayers wanting to back him plenty of confidence.

Pick 3 = 3 x 4 x 2 = 24

$1 Pick 3 = $24
