Horses worth watching is a list of runners that should do well next time out. These thoroughbreds won nine times, ran second seven times and finished third twice since May 16. They’re worth considering when developing your wagering strategy for online betting or at your favorite track.
ARLINGTON PARK
Tom Archdeacon: Raced four lengths behind in third after a half-mile, dropped to sixth entering far turn, awaited clear path at five-sixteenth pole, angled five wide in upper stretch, rallied to make up more than 3 ¾ lengths and gained second by a nose at 1 1/16 miles on the turf June 24.
BELMONT
Risky Gambler: Bounced around at break, raced 4 ½ lengths behind in sixth after a half-mile, swung wide on turn, rallied to make up more than 2 ½ lengths in stretch and finished second beaten a neck at six furlongs on the turf June 24; ran final quarter in 21 3/5.
CALDER
Trippindahiway: Raced five lengths behind in fifth after three-eighths of a mile, launched rally in stretch, forced to check at sixteenth pole behind third-place finisher, recovered and gained second by three-quarters of a length at five furlongs on the turf June 24.
COLONIAL DOWNS
Valiant Star: Chased pace early, grabbed lead by head after three-eighths of a mile, increased margin to eight lengths in stretch and cruised to 13-length victory ridden out at 5 ½ furlongs on outer turf course June 20.
DELAWARE PARK
Andwhatelse: Raced more than 7 ½ lengths behind in seventh after a half-mile, rallied down middle in stretch to make up more than 4 ¾ lengths and finished second beaten a neck at a mile and 70 yards on June 15.
EVANGELINE DOWNS
Title Clear: Raced more than two lengths behind in sixth after a half-mile, rallied five wide from fifth in stretch and finished third beaten a neck and as head at seven furlongs on June 16.
HOLLYWOOD PARK
Pop’shands Are Hot: Raced 6 ½ lengths behind in fifth after a half-mile, lost ground to sixth in upper stretch, rallied to make up more than 2 ½ lengths and finished second beaten a half-length at a mile on the turf June 18; ran final quarter in 24 seconds.
LONE STAR PARK
Stradley: Raced sixth early, dropped to seventh more than five lengths behind after three-eighths of a mile, saved ground on turn, moved out at top of stretch, rallied from fifth to make up 3 ½ lengths and finished second beaten a half-length at five furlongs on June 17.
LOUISIANA DOWNS
Conga Rock: Raced seventh early, dropped to eighth and last more than four lengths behind after three-eighths of a mile, angled out for room, rallied between rivals from fifth to make up more than 2 ¾ lengths and finished second beaten three-quarters of a length at five furlongs on the turf June 17.
MONMOUTH PARK
Poetic Pal: Raced more than seven lengths behind in seventh after a half-mile, closed late inside from sixth to make up more than 3 ¾ lengths in stretch and gained third by two lengths on June 18.
PHILADELPHIA PARK
Drop the Mail: Raced more than seven lengths behind in fifth after half-mile, split rivalsrallying from sixth in stretch to make up more than 6 ¼ lengths and finished second beaten a neck at seven furlongs on June 20.
WOODBINE
Freddie Anteros: Raced more than nine lengths behind in 12th after a half-mile, hustled between rivals on turn, closed fast from sixth in stretch to make up 4 ¾ lengths and finished second beaten three-quarters of a length at 6 ½ furlongs on June 17.
