Horse Picks from Gulfstream Park – Talent Search in a Trifecta
January 28, 2009
Gulfstream Park resumes their winter/spring meet on Wednesday with a featured race in the 8th that showcases some familiar names.
Sports betting fans will recognize the name Cool Coal Man as one of the starters in the 8th, a 6 ½ furlong sprint over the Gulfstream Park dirt track. Cool Coal Man was part of the Triple Crown chase last year.
Race-day: 1/28/2009
Race-time: 4:43 pm est.
But he’s not our pick of the day.
Let’s get to it!
Gulfstream Park – Race 8
Optional Claiming $100,000
For Four Year Olds and Up
6 ½ furlongs on dirt
Knight’s Cross – 3/1 online betting odds
Knight’s Cross should lay behind the expected pace duel before taking off at the top of the stretch. He gets Cornelio Velasquez to ride him back and there’s no doubting that he loves the Gulfstream Park surface. Trainer Eddie Kenneally won at an 18% clip last year. He’s the pick in this contested race.
Talent Search – 2/1 online betting odds
Talent Search is the speed of the speed and he should be long gone in this but he’s never run over the Gulfstream Park surface, is coming off of a big lay-off, and could burn himself out before getting to the final furlong. He might be lone speed in this but Rexson’s Rose and even Knight’s Cross could tackle him early. Plus, Talent Search has to be using this as a prep for something bigger down the road, right?
Golden Spikes – 5/1 online betting odds
He’s always right there to show his stuff in the lane. Sometimes, he even pulls out a victory. What he lacks in the speed department, he makes up for with determination. He’s the closer to bet in this race if online racebook fans believe that Knight’s Cross has to go with Talent Search.
Wagering Strategy
Knight’s Cross is a good online bet to win and place at odds of 3 to 1 or higher. I will also use Knight’s Cross in an exacta and trifecta box with Golden Spikes and Talent Search.
Good Luck!
