Horse Pick of the Day – Grade III Old Hat Stakes from Gulfstream Park

There are three graded stakes races on Gulfstream Park’s Saturday card. The one that most bettors will be lining up to play is the Grade III Mr. Prospector Stakes, which goes off at 4:07 pm EST.

In that race both Munnings and Custom For Carlos returns. It’s going to be tough for horseplayers to find an overlay with a legitimate shot to beat both Munnings and Custom For Carlos. Because of that, I’m turning my attention to Race 9 at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, the Grade III Old Hat Stakes, for my pick of the day.

Dance With Ashley – - 6/1 morning Horse Race line odds

There is a lot of speed in this race, but no horse is probably faster than Dance With Ashley. The MartinWolfson trainee obliterated an allowance field in her last by 4 lengths. She is undefeated in two starts. She gets jockey Julien Leparoux and she can stalk about 3 lengths off of the pace before taking over in the lane. Dance With Ashley’s ability to rate gives her an advantage over the rest of the speed in this.

Carphonic – - 4/1 morning Horse Race line odds

Carphonic can rate as well. The 3 year old miss sired by Lion Heart is also undefeated in two lifetime races. Like Dance With Ashley picking up Leparoux, Carphonic picks up a terrific jockey in John Velasquez. The horse has been training exceptionally well and trainer William White should have Carphonic in peak condition. The only real knock is that the horse didn’t improve speed rating wise from its first to second race.

Female Drama – - 8/1 morning Horse Race line odds

Todd Pletcher sends out this filly sired by Indian Charlie. The horse has all of the makings of a champion after winning its first two races. Female Drama will be part of the pace and could get eaten up on the front end. Then again, if no other horse goes with Female Drama early, then expect this one to get its picture taken. The horse is that fast. At the odds, much consideration must be given to this Pletcher horse.

I will bet Dance With Ashley to win and place. I will also play an exacta box with Dance With Ashley, Carphonic and Female Drama.
