Horse Pick from Beautiful Mountaineer Racetrack

February 25, 2009

Race-day: 2/24/2009

Race-time: 9:55 pm

The Mountaineer Racetrack did the right thing years ago when they instituted slot machines. Having a casino at the horses racetrack is the best way to insure that races can be run every day with full fields.

For horse racing fans, the Mountaineer Racetrack is usually a great place to find overlays because of those huge fields.

Let’s analyze Race 8 at Mountaineer on Tuesday night.

Mountaineer Racetrack – Race 8

Claiming $10,000 n3L

For Three Year Olds and Up Which Have Never Won Three Races

6 furlongs on dirt

Trippi’s Rhythmn – - 3/1 morning line odds

The drop from $15,000 to $8,000 claimers may or may not help Trippi’s Rhythm but the fact that this 4 year old gelding shows up in a race full of speed should definitely help. Trippi’s Rhythm can lie right off of the speed before making a run at the top of the stretch. That’s going to be the key move in this race which is full of speed types that haven’t done much above this level.

No Grumbling – - 8/1 morning line odds

Here’s another presser type that should like how the race unfolds. The biggest advantage for No Grumbling is that he gets to hug the rail and wait for an opening. He should get an opening because no speed types at this level ever keep it going for long. He’s a nice long shot play in this.

Halo’s Hollyann – - 4/1 morning line odds

This 5 year old gelding came off the shelf in December to score its maiden victory. Then, it came right back with a nice win at this level. Halo’s Hollyann could definitely win again, but the other speed in this says that it will be much tougher.

Wagering Strategy

I like Trippi’s Rhythmn to win and place. I will also put Trippi’s Rhythmn in an exacta box with Halo’s Hollyann and No Grumbling. For the trifecta, I will key Trippi’s Rhythmn in all three slots.
