The John Sadler trained Royal Taat might get the right pace set-up for her fantastic late kick when she takes to the Hollywood Park turf course on Wednesday afternoon.

Royal Taat hasn’t raced since late March but has been training steadily for Sadler in anticipation of the $62,500 Claimer she’s entered in on Wednesday. Even with the pace likely setting Royal Taat up, her chances of going off as the chalk in this race aren’t very good considering the competition she faces.

The pace does set things up for Royal Taat but the turf course at Hollywood has been favoring speed. So, even if they go super fast up front, they might not be going fast enough for Royal Taat to win. That’s why I prefer Brookie Girl in the win slot. The Vladimir Cerin trainee is 3-1-1 out of 7 lifetime races, can run up with the front-runners or lie right off of the pace, and is dropping back into a sprint after running 1 1/16th miles. The route race should have definitely put enough underneath her in order for her to run fast early and still have a shot at the victory.

The expected pace definitely sets up for her late kick and she gets into the money often with a record of 5-2-3 out of 26 lifetime races. She’s also 1 and 1 out of 3 races over the Hollywood turf. The only issue with Royal Taat is the fact that Sadler puts her up for the claim. Considering she’s a moneymaker, I have to question his motives in this race. She could win this, no doubt, but Hollywood’s turf course has been favoring speed runners with regularity this spring and Sadler putting her up for the claim just puts all sorts of questions into my head. She’s still a must use, however.

There’s a good chance that this Bob Baffert charge will go off the favorite in this race because Bob’s been on fire at the meet winning at a 32% clip. Via Veneto’s two worst races actually occurred over turf but she’s coming off of a slight break and ran the best race of her life in her last. If she doesn’t go off as the favorite, then horseplayers should consider a win bet on her because Baffert’s been doing so well. If she does go off as the favorite, forget the win bet but she’s still a must use in the exotics.

Brookie Girl should be on her game in this race. I will bet her to win. I will also key her in an exacta over Via Veneto and Royal Taat. I will reverse for less. I will bet a trifecta with Brookie Girl over Royal Taat, Via Veneto, first time on the turf Came West, over ALL. I will bet another trifecta with Came West, Via Veneto, Royal Taat over Brookie Girl over ALL.
