The weather should be nice and sunny in Elmont, New York this Thursday meaning that the best race for horseplayers at Belmont Park could be the 9th.

In the 9th, 10 horses will be lining up for a $16,000 claimer going 1 mile on the turf.

Because of the condition, this race is not going to showcase the best turf horses in New York.

Hey, that’s all well and good for me! It means that a long shot could actually win the race.

7-Verveitup – - 12/1 morning line horse betting odds

If Verveitup keeps his odds, then he’s going to be the biggest overlay on the entire Belmont Park card. Verveitup has run well since going to the barn of Patricia Farro when winning a maiden on the turf at 1 mile and 40 yards and then finishing a better than it looks 8th in a $30,000 claimer going 1 1/8th miles on the turf at Monmouth.

The steep drop in class will definitely help this guy as will the addition of jockey Kent Desormeaux who will take this guy to the front and try to nurse him through some soft fractions. Verveitup has a seriously great shot of going gate to wire in this race on Thursday.

3-Pals First Lady – - 5/1 morning line horse betting odds

Pal’s First Lady figures to stay close to Verveitup without pressing that one too hard through easy fractions. The daughter of Judge TC is good enough to beat the boys on Thursday and is fast enough to challenge Verveitup early but I don’t believe that jockey Ramon Dominguez will employ those tactics.

Because of that, Pals First Lady appears better suited on the bottom half of the exacta instead of on top.

10-Trans Siberian – - 4/1 morning line horse betting odds

There’s a huge upside to this 3-year old gelding sired by Smarty Jones…or, is there? If there were a lot of upside to this guy, then wouldn’t he be entered in a non-claiming event instead of this low-level claimer at Belmont? I believe so.

I do like how Trans Siberian battled to the wire in his maiden score in his last, but I’m not a fan of the post and I do believe he goes off as the favorite in this. I will use underneath and in my trifecta, but I can’t endorse for him for my win bet.

I’m feeling Verveitup in this race and will bet that one to win and place. I will also play a tirfecta with Verveitup over Trans Siberian, Pals First Lady, Actor’s Groove over ALL.

I will play another trifecta with Trans Siberian, Pals First Lady, Actor’s Groove over Verveitup over ALL.

Actor’s Groove might go off as the chalk in this race instead of Trans Siberian and is a bit of closer.
