Horse Bet of the Day – Race 6 at Hollywood Park on Friday Night
May 28, 2010
Friday night racing at Hollywood Park continues with a full 8 race card.
The best horse betting race appears to be the 6th where 11 horses have signed up to run 7 ½ furlongs over Hollywood Park’s cushion track.
So far, the cushion track at HollyPark has been playing fairly even with both sprinters and closers getting a shot at the win money depending on the pace.
I’m guessing that the cushion park will be playing fair again on Friday night for the 6th, a $43,000 allowance for California bred or California sired horses.

7 ½ furlongs on cushion track
Holladay Road – - 9/2 morning line horse betting odds
The 5-year old gelding sired by Street Cry is used to taking the lead and then trying desperately to hold on for a victory.
I don’t believe that he will be doing that in this race as there appears to be other speed signed up and he’s dropping out of a mile race on the grass to contest this 7 ½ furlong jaunt over the plastic.
With a record of 2-1-1 out of 7 liftetime races, Holladay Road has every right to improve after breaking his maiden over Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface and then coming back with a victory over the turf. Trainer Carla Gaines wins at a 34% clip right back with her last 4 race winners. If Holladay Road stays anywhere close to those 9 to 2 odds, he’s a serious overlay in this race.
Killer Bear – - 6/1 morning line horse betting odds
There appears to be enough speed in this race to set up this late closing son of Northern Devil. Killer Bear almost won the Grey Memo Stakes closing from 7 ½ lengths at the 2nd call and 5 ½ lengths at the top of the stretch to lose by only 1 ½ lengths.
Killer Bear could bounce off of that terrific effort, he recorded the best speed rating of his life, but I’m more inclined to believe that the jockey switch to F.S. Valdez in the Grey Memo Stakes is what accounted for his terrific run. Sometimes a horse responds to a particular jockey. At the odds of 6 to 1, I’m willing to bet that Killer Bear did exactly that in his last and will do it again on Friday night.
Scofield Barracks – - 7/2 morning line odds
Scofield Barracks should get the right pace set-up with so much speed signed on for this contest. Barracks ended up third in the Grey Memo Stakes in his last after making a furious run in the stretch.
The horse had to wait for an opening before making his move in the stretch and with a cleaner trip, he figures to be very, very tough in this. His 2-1-2 record out of 8 lifetime starts tells us that he always puts in a good effort. He just needs the right pace set-up for his closing kick.
Horse Wagering Strategy
Holladay Road figures to get a dream trip behind One Man’s Delight, Malone Slam, Senator Bob, Itssultryinthecape and Roman Counsel. Because of that, I’m going to bet Holladay Road to win and place.
I will play an exacta with Holladay Road over closers Scofield Barracks and Killer Bear. I will reverse the exacta for less. I will play a trifecta with Holladay Road over Scofield Barracks and Killer Bear over ALL. I will play a smaller trifecta with Scofield Barracks and Killer Bear over Holladay Road over ALL.
Good luck!
