Horse Bet of the Day – General Consensus Might Be the One to Bet in the Grade III Beverly Hills

In her last 3 races, General Consensus has had to chase after the best female turf horse on the west coast, Tuscan Evening.  Tuscan Evening isn’t entered for the Grade III Beverly Hills at Hollywood Park on Saturday, June 26th. 

Because of that, General Consensus might very well be the best horse to bet not only to win the Grade III Beverly Hills, but she might be the best horse to bet to win on Saturday in any race.

There is hardly any speed in this race.  Almost zero.  Back in spring of 2009, General Consensus showed that she actually doesn’t mind running on the front end.  Jockey Rafael Bejarano is a master at slowing down a horse on the turf and General Consensus should get an easy lead.  Gate to wire looks more than possible for the likely chalk in the Grade III Beverly Hills on Saturday.

She’s won 3 in a row and should absolutely love the distance.  She might go off as the favorite in this race, but there are a couple of issues with betting her to win. First, even though she was purchased for over $815,000 bucks, she has never won a graded race. 

Second, she’s probably a better off the pace horse but will have to stay close to General Consensus in order to win.  Now, if she goes off at anything higher than 7 to 2 in this, she’s probably worth taking a shot on, but I doubt she will.

She was absolutely drubbed facing the boys in her last race.  She lost by over 17 lengths to Bourbon Bay.  This field is much, much easier, she’s definitely classy and she gets to break from the 1 hole where she can save ground.  If things open up for her at the top of the stretch and she isn’t too far behind, she could pull off the upset.

Horse Wagering Strategy

General Consensus should get the lead all to herself.  I will bet her to win and place.  I will bet a big exacta box with General Consensus over Turning Top.  I will bet another exacta box with General Consensus over Princess Taylor.
