A Sassy Fuasichi goes first time for trainer Jack Carava in Hollywood Park’s 5th race on Thursday, June 24th.

The 5-year old Fusaichi mare is 5-4-1 out of 13 lifetime races.  She’s coming off of a victory going 7 ½ furlongs on Hollywood Park’s cushion track.  There’s no doubt that she’s going to be the favorite in Hollywood Park’s 5th on Thursday, but is she the best bet?

Burna Dette has won only 2 races out of 17 starts, has only a 2nd and 3rd place finish out of 5 starts over Hollywood Park’s turf course, and runs for a 7% winning trainer, but I’m picking her to beat the terrific A Sassy Fusaichi.  Why?  Because she’s taking a slight drop in class and there is a ton of speed signed on for this race.  The pace should set things up for Burna Dette’s closing kick.  Yes, she’s chased fast paces before and failed but this time, her 3rd race off of a layoff, I believe she gets there in time.

Like Burna Dette, Mission Viejo Halo is a late closing sprinter in a race full of speed.  She should be able to lie right behind that speed and then make a nice run to the finish line.  The obvious issue with Mission Viejo Halo is the fact that she hasn’t raced since September of 2009 but her record of 2 victories out of 5 starts over Hollywood Park’s turf course is a sign that she can win this race.  She also gets hot jockey Martin Garcia to ride her.

The daughter of Unbridled Native goes first time on the turf.  She’s definitely got a decent shot in this because she’s the speed of the speed.  Jockey Tyler Baze will get to see what A Sassy Fusaichi and Enumclaw Girl, the two other speed horses in the race, do once the gates open.  Kaylie’s Joy has a big shot of wiring this field if neither one of those other horses fire and deserves to be considered for a win bet depending on her odds tomorrow.

I will bet an exacta keying Burna Dette over Kaylie’s Joy, A Sassy Fusaichi, Mission Viejo Halo.  I will reverse the exacta for less.
