Horse Bet of the Day – 6 to 1 Horse Bet Shot in the 9th at Churchill Downs

Sometimes, the best horse betting prospects can actually be found in a graded race.  Many horseplayers believe that the best scores often times occur in claiming and allowance races. 

I don’t exactly disagree with that notion, but I also understand that graded races, without a horse named Rachel Alexandra, Quality Road or Zenyatta in them, can often lead to nice win and place pay-outs on the victorious equine.  Hopefully, that will be the case should my pick in Race 9 at Churchill Downs on Saturday score.

4-Joharmony – - 6/1 morning line horse betting odds

Joharmony has won 4 races in a row and figures to keep climbing up after winning a $50,000 restricted stakes in her last.  She’s a daughter of Johar, who won the Breeders’ Cup Turf, can lie close to the pace if need be, and has the best closing kick out of any of the horses in this race.  Her lack of graded stakes experience is a concern, but it’s also the reason that this obvious contender is at 6 to 1 on the morning line.  Jockey JJ Castellano has ridden her to victory in her last 2 starts.  He’ll know what to do in order to get her home first again. 

8-It’s Tea Time – - 9/2 morning line horse betting odds

This gal’s connections gave her a shot to show how good she really was in the Grade I Kentucky Oaks in her last.  It appears that they were biting off more than they could chew because she was god awful, when finishing 9th and losing by 10 lengths to Blind Luck in that race.  She returns to the turf, the site of her maiden score, and should also return to the closing style that led to a victory and 2 seconds out of 3 lifetime races before the Oaks disaster.  Jockey Garrett Gomez has won with 10 horses out of 35 mounts at the meet.

10 – Dynazaper – - 4/1 morning line horse betting odds

Trainer Bill Mott, the same guy that saddled Drosselmeyer to a victory in the Belmont Stakes last Saturday, should have this daughter of Ghostzapper ready to roll after her ½ length victory in the restricted Edwgood stakes in her last.  Dynazaper is going to have to hustle out of the 10 hole to get in position to pressure likely pace-setter Go Alex Go, but she should be able to do it because there isn’t an abundance of speed in this. Go Alex Go will be motoring on the front end.  That should compromise Dynazaper’s win chances in this race because she can’t possibly let that one get away from her. She’s definitely talented enough to hang on for third, however.

Horse Wagering Strategy

Joharmony figures to keep her morning line horse betting odds because of the quality of this field.  I’m gong to bet her to win and place.  I will bet an exacta with Joharmony over Dynazaper and It’s Tea Time.  I will reverse for less.

I will also bet a trifecta with Joharmony in the first slot over Dynazaper, It’s Tea Time and Go Alex Go (the speed!) in the second slot over ALL.  I will play another trifecta with Dynazaper, It’s Tea Time, and Go Alex Go over Joharmony over ALL.
