Race 7 at Hollywood Park on Thursday, a 6-furlong sprint on the turf, has attracted a nice field of 3-year olds looking to take home the winner’s share of a $43,000 allowance purse.

The expected entrants will most likely ensure a super quick pace. That pace should set it up well for my Horse Bet of the Day.

2-Sirocco Strike – - 5/2 morning line horse betting odds

The daughter of Forestry is coming off of a maiden victory and usually that would worry me but there are two reasons why it doesn’t. First, trainer Ron Ellis wins with 27% of his second on the grass starters and 24% of his maiden winner last race starters. Second, there appears to be an abundance of speed in this race meaning that Sirocco Strike should be able to lie behind the speed and then run on for the victory just like she did in her maiden score.

4-Fandino – - 3/1 morning line horse betting odds

Fandino has an advantage over the other speed horses in this race in the sense that the 3-year old gelding doesn’t need the lead to win. Jockey Rafael Bejarano is a master at gauging exactly how much he needs to push on the pedal early meaning that this guy will be in a great position turning for home. He’s got a solid chance of winning this race off of that 2nd place finish in his last.

5-Majestic Peak – - 12/1 morning line horse betting odds

Majestic Peak may not look like he’s got a shot to win this race, but I beg to differ with that assumption. The horse is going first time on the turf for trainer Craig Dollase. That’s a 17% winning move for a +.32 cent ROI (return on investment). Not only that but this guy’s breeding says that he should excel on the turf. He’s also a closer in a race full of speed. Majestic Peak has a nice shot in this.

Horse Wagering Strategy

Sirocco Strike looks awfully solid in this race. I’m going to go ahead and bet him to win only. I will put a smaller win bet on Majestic Peak. Why bet Majestic Peak to win instead of Fandino? Because Majestic Peak is going to offer much better value. I’m going to bet an exacta with Sirocco Strike over Majestic Peak and Fandino. I’ll reverse the exacta for less.
