Daily Horse Matchup: Hollywood Park – Race 7

Race-day: 6/11/2009

Race-time: 7:08 pm est.

Hollywood Park resumes racing on Thursday with an 8 race card. Hollywood isn’t going to start racing on Wednesdays. So racebook fans who like to partake in Hollywood action will have to wait until towards the end of the week.

Luckily for horseplayers, BetOnline offers daily horse matchups on racetracks like Hollywood Park. That means that instead of just getting action on the race itself, horseplayers can get more sports bet type action.

Let’s take a look at one of the better horse matchups for Thursday.

Hollywood Park – Race 7

$70,000 Cinderella Stakes

For Fillies Two Years Old

5 ½ furlongs on cushion track

Repo -130 vs. Champagne D’Oro Ev

Analysis: Repo is the favorite in this matchup and it makes sense. She was absolutely fantastic in her first lifetime race garnering a huge speed rating when going 4 ½ furlongs in a $46,000 state bred maiden special weight race.

The daughter of In Excess got the half in 45 and 1 and then drew off for a 4 length victory as a 10 to 1 shot. It was a very impressive race and because she keeps jockey Corey Nakatani and gets and outside draw, she figures to be awfully tough to beat in this race.

But there is other speed in this race, including Well Deserved and Nana Boo. Both of those will be flying early, pressuring Repo from the start which should set things up for Repo’s competition in this, Champagne D’Oro.

Champagne D’oro, a daughter of Medaglia D’Oro and half sister of Preakness Stakes winner Rachel Alexandra, didn’t win her first lifetime race because she was pressing the aforementioned Well Deserved. She ended up losing by a length to that one after sticking with her through a 44 and 3 half mile. That’s almost a full second faster than Repo.

Not only that, but Southern Fireball, who finished third in the race to Well Deserved, came back to win with a fantastic speed rating. Southern Fireball should go off the chalk in this race.

So, Champagne D’Oro is coming out of a key race, gets blinkers, and will be going into this off a fast four furlong work from the gate on June 3rd. She also should stick around 2 to 3 lengths off of the pace before chasing after Repo, Well Deserved and Nana Boo.

In a matchup between Champagne D’Oro and Repo, I have to go with Champagne D’Oro.

Pick: Champagne D’Oro at Ev
