Now, devoted pro football followers already know that preseason football mostly means that teams will be evaluating many of their younger or players while playing their starters for the requisite one quarter early on.

Nevertheless, NFL betting enthusiasts will still have an excellent opportunity to cash in with a winning wager in a matchup that is offering a lot of value in spite of the general lack of urgency most teams have to actually win preseason games.

Having said that, let me breakdown this matchup for pro football betting buffs everywhere.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2010 season as one of the odds-on-favorites to come out of the NFC and don’t have much to prove coming into this contest other than mostly concentrating on evaluating their younger players.

The ‘Boys won’t get to see No. 1 draft pick Dez Bryant in action after the talented wideout recently injured his ankle in training camp, Dallas has a new starting left tackle in veteran, Alex Barron and they will definitely be looking to see if he has what it takes.

Veteran wideout Roy Williams will also be looking to make something of an impression as he tries to fight off Bryant for his starting position opposite of 2009 breakout star Miles Austin.

Other than these two starting positions, the ‘Boys appear to be set with one of the best rushing attacks in the league and a quarterback that is coming off his best season in Tony Romo.

Defensively, the Boys are also set with their starters, which consists of arguably the best front seven in all of football. Dallas does have several injuries on the defensive side of the ball with their backups, so I suspect they will really focus their efforts on evaluating their backups in this contest.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals do have more evaluations to do on the offensive side of the ball and will likely focus some of their efforts on whether veteran wideouts Antonio Bryant or the recently-signed Terrell Owens will start opposite Chad Ochocinco.

However, with Bryant still recovering from a left knee injury, Owens will likely get more snaps in this initial preseason contest. The Bengals will also get to see fist round draft pick, tight end Jermaine Gresham in action, though it is almost certain he will open the season as the unequivocal starter.

One thing football bettors can certainly count on is the fact that oft-injured quarterback Carson Palmer will be out of this contest by the end of the first quarter.

Last but not least, the Cincinnati Bengals will really try to get a grasp on where right tackle Andre Smith is at this point. Smith has been ridiculed for his weight and conditioning and he will split time with backup Dennis Roland.

The Bengals will try to figure out who their backup quarterback will be between J.T. O’Sullivan and Jordan Palmer.

Defensively, Cincinnati was one of the best teams in the league last season, so they will undoubtedly be looking at their backups on this side of the ball, including cornerback Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones, who is currently listed as third on Cincy’s depth chart at left cornerback.

Analysis: This value-packed pick may be closer to a lock than a gut-wrenching decision as the Dallas Cowboys have a whole lot less to evaluate in this contest than the Cincinnati Bengals do and will almost assuredly play their starters less than the Bengals.

I expect the Bengals to probably run a lot of three, wide receiver, one back sets as they throw the ball early and often to evaluate Owens and Bryant as the team prepares to throw the ball much more than they did last season.

This game will likely come down to which backup quarterbacks don’t blow the game – and if I’m a betting man, I’m going with Cincinnati’s backup signal callers to perform a lot better than Dallas’ Jon Kitna and Stephen McGee.

Play the Bengals to win this game and cover the NFL betting odds as they have a lot more to evaluate in this contest than the Dallas Cowboys.

With the Bengals likely to put the ball in the air early on – and both teams mostly resting their stellar defenses – I like the Over to play out as well.
