Gulfstream Park Race 8 – Picking Winners
April 2, 2009
Race-day: 4/2/2009
Race-time: 4:43 pm est.
Gulfstream Park is still providing terrific racing action in the racebook even though they just concluded their biggest day of the year when Quality Road won the Grade I Florida Derby.
On Thursday, the featured race on the Gulfstream Park card is Race 8.
Let’s analyze Race 8 at Gulfstream Park on Thursday.
Gulfstream Park – Race 8
Optional Claiming $50,000 n$y
For Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Up Which Have Never Won $7,500 Other Then Maiden, Claiming or Starter or Which Have Never Won Three Races or Claiming Price $50,000
1 mile on dirt
Spirit Line – - 4/1 morning line
Turf to dirt for this daughter of Indian Charlie who appears to be as classy as any other horse in here. Trainer Wesley Ward has been exceptional this meet when winning 32% of his races. Spirit Line should be able to track a nice pace before taking over in the lane. She’s got a huge shot at what could be nice odds.
Jasmine Gardens – - 5/2 morning line
On paper she wins, but this seems like too cheap of a race for her. Trainer Tom Albertrani has been fantastic at Gulfstream. He’s winning at 29% with his starters and Jasmine Gardens could be in the garden spot, about three lengths off, which means she gets first run at the speed.
B R’s Girl – - 2/1 morning line
She’s a serious threat to win as the chalk in this race. She’s going turf to dirt which is a 34% winning angle for her trainer, Martin Wolfson, and she can lead, stalk, or hang back and make a big run. One thing to notice is that she busted the best race of her life off of a lay off and this will be her third race back. Maybe, she’s just one of those one and done types.
Wagering Strategy
I like Spirit Line to win and place. I will also put Spirit Line, B R’s Girl and Jasmine Gardens into an exacta and trifecta box.
