Groundhog Day 2011 – Punxsutawney Phil is GOLD for Super Bowl Winners
February 2, 2011
Groundhog Day 2011 will have Punxsutawney Phil poking his head out of the ground this Wednesday (Feb. 2) as he does every year to reveal whether there is 6 more weeks of Winter left if he sees his shadow.
This may be what the ceremony is widely recognized for, but this slimy varmint is much better at picking which NFL Conference will win the Super Bowl.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers are probably not waiting to see what this weasel is going to do on Groundhog Day 2011 so they know what their chances are. I AM, and you are all about to know the secret behind the magical pouched rat.
The fact that grown men and women actually gather around a rodent to observe the existence or non-existence of his shadow on this given day yearly would baffle me if it weren’t just another excuse to have a weeklong party. And to predict the Super Bowl XLV winner.
I’m actually jazzed that I found another use for this half pound pelt wearer for Groundhog Day 2011.
There are two possibilities for the whistle pig’s shadow, and there are 2 possible outcomes for Super Bowl XLV. Fortunately for you, there is a correlation between the two lately.
From 2001 to last year’s 2010 Super Bowl XLVIV, there has been 9 times that Phil the Ferret did not see his shadow indicating 6 more weeks left of Winter.
In those years, there were 6 AFC Champions in the Super Bowl and 3 NFC Champions in the Super Bowl. This is a 66.6% victory percentage for the AFC (Pittsburgh Steelers) which is a pretty fair Win percentage.
Since 1983 there have been 8 times this steam shovel actually had enough sun to see his shabby shadow indicating Winter was nearly over.
In those 8 years, the NFC was the Super Bowl Champion 6 times while the AFC team only mustered 2 of these victories. That is a 75% advantage for the NFC (Green Bay Packers) which is HUGE!
This provides a simple system attached to it by my calculations, superstitions and FUN!
