Great Wall of China – Utah Visits Yao and the Rockets

January 21, 2009

The Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets take to the court on Wednesday night in a Midwest Divisional battle between two of the top teams in the NBA. Online betting fans have to respect how the Jazz, even though they’ve played this entire season without All-Star Carolos Boozer, are racking up victories. Utah has a straight-up record of 25 and 17 and an against the spread record of 22 and 20. Their against the spread record of 10 and 11 in away games makes them an online basketball betting option when they travel in some cases.

The Houston Rockets boast one of the top two or three big men in the league in Yao Ming. Yao has become comfortable in those T-Mobile commercials with Dwayne Wade and the alcoholic Charles Barkley. He’s become even better on the basketball court averaging 19.9 points and 9.5 rebounds. The Rockets are 26 and 16 straight-up and have a 19 and 23 record against the BetOnline sports betting spread. Their home record against the spread of 7 and 12 makes them a tough online wager in most cases.

Here are the BetOnline online sportsbook betting odds for this game.

Utah Jazz +3 ½ -110 O 194 -110

Houston Rockets -3 ½ -110 U 194 -110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.

The Utah Jazz is 5 and 2 against the spread in their last 7 games as an underdog.

The Utah Jazz is 6 and 1 against the spread in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

The Houston Rockets are 2 and 7 against the spread in their last 9 games as the favorite.

The Underdog is 8 and 3 against the spread in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.

Carlos Boozer returns in mid-February for the Jazz and even though Utah will welcome his return, he might find it hard to get playing time because the Jazz’s front-court has been absolutely phenomenal in his absence.

Mehmet Okur has turned into a Turkish rock star with his play this season. The manic center is scoring at least 20 points a game and pulling down key rebounds. He has also shown some leadership skills in Boozers’ absence.

Then, there’s Paul Millsap who was phenomenal in Utah’s last game racking up 28 points and 15 rebounds. This guy can flat out play. Add in point-guard Derron Williams, who I might have to name my first born after, and the Jazz are suddenly one of the best teams in the NBA.

Houston is almost as good but they don’t match-up in key areas against the Jazz. That was evident the last time these two teams met, also in Houston, when the Rockets lost to the Jazz by a score of 120 to 115 in overtime.

I’ll be making an online bet on the Utah Jazz to beat the -3 ½ against the spread line in this game.
