Great Thoroughbred Betting Odds Found at Charles Town Oaks

September 18, 2010

Horseplayers won’t have trouble finding great thoroughbred betting odds on at least a couple of the entrants running in this Saturday’s $400,000 Charles Town Oaks.

The field is incredibly deep with more than a few capable of challenging morning line favorites Belle Of The Hall and Beyondallboundarys.

Because of the deep field, taking short odds on morning line chalk Belle Of The Hall just doesn’t make sense.

Let’s take a look at the field for this Saturday’s Charles Town Oaks!

$400,000 Charles Town Oaks

Where: Charles Town, West Virginia

When: Sept. 18th, 2010 at 10:30 pm EST

Charles Town – Race 10

Charles Town Oaks

Purse $400,000. Three-Year-Old Fillies.

7 furlongs over dirt

  1. Southern Fireball 8/1 – - She’s never run over conventional dirt, but that’s the reason that horseplayers have to like her in this. The thoroughbred betting odds should stay close to the 8/1 morning line making her an overlay since she doesn’t face Evening Jewel, Repo, or Switch in this. Those three are much better than anything else in this field.
  1. Karmageddon 12/1 – - Karmageddon definitely tries hard, she’s 3-2-1 out of 8 lifetime races, but this field is better than anything she’s ever run against before and she’d have to improve a ton just to challenge for third in this.
  1. Belle Of The Hall 5/2 – - The likely chalk came back down to earth in her last, the Grade I Test. Belle Of The Hall is good enough to win this race, but, as is often the case, she’s likely to get over bet in this spot because she’s won 3 out of 4 lifetime races. Her works haven’t been overly impressive either. 5/2? I don’t think so!
  1. Beyondallboundarys 7/2 – - Her Victory Ride run wasn’t that bad. She just got burned up on the front end chasing a :44 half mile. Hey, most horses can’t run a half mile in :44 and 2 and then go on for the victory like Rapport did in the Victory Ride. She should be as fast or faster than any other horse in this and considering that Belle Of The Hall will be the chalk, horseplayers have to take Beyondallboundarys seriously as a win proposition. Anything close to the thoroughbred betting odds on the morning line means that bettors should use her in the exacta at the very least.
  1. Down Town Allen 6/1 – - Down Town Allen figures to be the rabbit in this race but even that is suspect considering that Beyondallboundarys and Richiegirlgonewild will be on the lead as well. The 6/1 odds make her an underlay to win this because she’s too cheap to out sprint the sprinters and there’s no way she keeps the closers from getting to her.
  1. Richiegirlgonewild 10/1- – She’s got a shot returning to dirt after running over the plastic, but she’s been fading at the 5-furlong distance in her last two. What gives her connections the impression that she’ll want to run 7 furlongs on Saturday? Betting on this gal is as good as grabbing for straws.
  1. Derwin’s Star 6/1 – - Creative horseplayers could make a case for this daughter of Wildcat Heir who ran a huge number two starts back. Unfortunately, that speed rating she garnered two races back occurred at Delaware Park and going two turns. She’s been facing much, much better lately, though, while facing such stars as Blind Luck and Havre De Grace. If trainer Steve Klesaris has her ready, she might be able to win this on class.
  1. C C’s Pal 10/1 – - If the race falls apart, I can see C C’s Pal somehow, someway, getting the victory in this. The graded-placed daughter of Alex’s Pal has finished in the Top 3 in her last 3 starts and although she does have to go back to a sprint after running in a route, the 7 furlong distance should be perfect for her. She’s yet another that horseplayers need to consider.
  1. Bronx City Girl 15/1 – - Not only has Bronx City Girl won 5 out of 14 starts, she’s finished second 3 times and third 3 times out of those 14 starts. That’s pretty good. What’s also good is that trainer Martin Wolfson wins 28% with his “second start with the trainer” horses. He wins 31% with horses coming off of a layoff and the thoroughbred betting odds are awfully fine on this filly. She’s the pick to get her picture taken, my friends.
  1. Come Sunday 10/1 – - Come Sunday has won 5 out of her last 6 races and, yes, that’s impressive, but she hasn’t run all that fast in any of those 6 races. Still, the fact that she won 2 races while on the lead before closing from 14 lengths out of it in her last to win means that she’s a seriously quality animal. Don’t discount her chances on Saturday.

First: Bronx City Girl

Second: Beyondallboundarys

Third: Come Sunday

Fourth: Belle Of The Hall

Good luck!
