Golf Wagers – Tournament Matchups for the Valero Texas Open
May 12, 2010
This week Ernie Els looks to get back on track when he travels to Texas for the Valero Texas Open.
Els is the golf betting favorite in the sportsbook to win his third PGA Tournament of the year.
He’s also the favorite to beat defending Valero champ, Zach Johnson, in a tournament.
Below are what I consider to be the best golf bets in the tournament matchup category for this week’s PGA Event.
- Where: TPC San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas
- When: May 13th thru May16th, 2010
PGA Tour: Valero Texas Open Tournament Matchups
- Ernie Els -125 vs. Zach Johnson -105 – Johnson is the defending champion, but Els is the money leader on the Tour as well as the #1 guy in the FedEx Cup Standings. Ernie’s also the guy who won the WGC-CA and Arnold Palmer Invitational this year. Johnson? Poor Zach hasn’t posted a Top 10 finish yet this year.
Pick: Ernie Els
- Adam Scott -120 vs. Justin Leonard -110 – Scott’s 26th place finish in The Players Championship was better than it looked because the best golfers in the world showed up for that one. Still, Leonard shot a 13 under and finished tied for 5th in the 2009 Valero Texas Open. Leonard is from Texas and has a huge home course advantage over his rival in this matchup.
Pick: Justin Leonard
- J.B. Holmes -120 vs. Chad Campbell -110 – Campbell’s yet another player from Texas but unlike Leonard in last year’s Valero Texas Open, Campbell didn’t do so well finishing in 60th place. Holmes is coming off of a 13th place finish at TPC Sawgrass. He’s the golf wager in this matchup.
Pick: J.B. Holmes
- Sergio Garcia -135 vs. Vijay Singh +105 – Vijay’s been crazy bad so far in 2010. He withdrew from the Shell Houston Open and has missed the cut in his last three starts. Garcia hasn’t been crazy bad. He’s just been stupid bad missing the cut and finishing 70th and 47th in his last 3 starts. So, is the bet crazy bad at good golf odds or stupid bad at awful golf odd? Stupid bad gets the nod.
Pick: Sergio Garcia
- Mark Wilson -105 vs. John Rollins -125 – Wilson finished tied for 11th with a 10 under in the 2009 Valero Texas Open but has missed the cut in 4 out of his last 5 starts. Rollins is coming off of a 13th place finish at The Players Championship and is 4th on the PGA Tour in ball striking. Rollins is the golf wager in this matchup.
Pick: John Rollins
- Frederik Jacobsen -120 vs. Charley Hoffman -110 – Jacobsen has been very, very good in his past 5 tournaments. He’s missed only one cut, has 2 Top 10 finishes, including a 10th at TPC Sawgrass, and 2 other top 25 finishes. Hoffman’s 2010 has been a huge bummer but his 22nd place finish at TPC Sawgrass in his last, and his 12 under 9th place finish in the 2009 Valero Texas Open, makes him an attractive underdog golf betting option in this matchup.
Pick: Charley Hoffman
