Golf Wagering Favorite – 72 Hole Group Golf Betting For the Valero Texas Open
May 12, 2010
When the golf wagering favorite to win a tournament is +1000, like Ernie Els is for this week’s PGA Event, the Valero Texas Open, golf wagering fans might want to step back and lower their risk of losing by betting on the golfer they like in 72 Hole Group futures.
Below is the pick for each one of the three groups listed in the PGA sportsbook.
PGA Tour: Valero Texas Open Tournament Matchups
Where: TPC San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas
When: May 13th thru May 16th, 2010
Group A
Golf Betting Options: Ernie Els +200, Zach Johnson +300, Bo Van Pelt +300, Adam Scott +350, Justin Leonard +350
Els is the obvious choice and the truth is that there doesn’t appear to be anybody in Group A worth backing to beat Els at the listed golf odds. Johnson is having a terrible year, by his standards, Van Pelt is coming off of 3 straight Top 5 finishes and is due for a letdown, Scott is coming off of a nice finish at TPC Sawgrass but missed the cut in the tournament before that and Leonard always does well at the Valero Texas Open but finished 52nd at The Players Championship and missed the cut at the Masters. Ernie won the WGC-CA and Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this year and is #1 in the FedEx Cup Standings. He’s the golf bet to make.
Pick: Ernie Els +200
Group B
Golf Betting Options: J.B. Holmes +250, John Rollins +300, Sergio Garcia +300, Charley Hoffman +350, Fredrik Jacobsen +350
This is a very tough group. A case can be made for each one of these golfers. Holmes is coming off of a terrific 13th place finish at The Players Championship. So is Rollins. Garcia has been terrible so far in 2010 but he should challenge this field. Hoffman finished tied for 9th with a 12 under in the 2009 Valero Texas Open. Jacobsen is coming off of a 10th place finish at The Players Championship. In a tough group, the nod goes to Hoffman because of his familiarity with the course.
Pick: Charley Hoffman +350
Group C
Golf Betting Options: J.J. Henry +250, Kevin Stadler +250, Matt Jones +300, Chris Stroud +300, Paul Goydos +350
Henry’s 58th at The Players Championship wasn’t very good. Stadler finished 58th at TPC Sawgrass as well. Matt Jones has finished in the Top 10 in his last two tournaments, the Zurich Classic and the Quail Hollow. Chris Stroud finished 10th at TPC Sawgrass in his last. Goydos, hasn’t been that great in 2010 but in 2009 he finished 3rd at the Valero Texas Open. He’s worth a golf wager at the odds.
Pick: Paul Goydos +350
