Golf Props – Arnold Palmer Tournament Matchups

March 25, 2009

This week’s PGA Tour event is the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. Some of the best golfers in the world are going to be teeing off at the Arnold Palmer.

The Masters is just two weeks away and golfers will need to begin to tighten up their games for Augusta. One of those golfers is Tiger Woods. Woods is a big favorite in the Arnold Palmer. Because of that, bettors could make nice profits by betting against Woods.

This is true by not only betting against Tiger to win but by betting against Tiger in the Tournament Matchups.

Let’s get to the best Tournament Matchups in this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Golf: Arnold Palmer Tournament Matchups

  1. Jim Furyk +250 vs. Tiger Woods -350 – - My brain tells me that Tiger makes a statement in this tournament, but my gut tells me that Furyk is steaming after shooting a 65 in the Transitions last week and then mailing it in after that. Furyk was terrible in round two, shooting a 78. I see both Woods and Furyk playing very well, but Tiger’s eyes will be on the prize at Augusta in two weeks. Furyk is the play.
    Pick: Jim Furyk at +250

  1. Anthony Kim -120 vs. Padraig Harrington -110 – - If this were a major, I’d be all over the Mad Irishman, that’s Padraig, but I can’t bet the guy in this matchup because Padraig has been absolutely terrible so far this year. Harrington will use the Arnold Palmer to get his swing back. Like Tiger, there is a bigger prize to be won in two weeks. Kim will try to pick up the money.
    Pick: Anthony Kim at -120

  1. Robert Allenby -140 vs. Vijay Singh +110 – - Allenby has been playing much more consistently this year, but Vijay is Vijay. Getting Singh at +110 cannot be ignored. He’s a long shot in this because Allenby is a terrific golfer, but I have to side with Singh. I mean, if Vijay is using this tournament to tighten a few things up for Augusta then he could win it.
    Pick: Vijay Singh at +110

  1. Rod Pampling -120 vs. Trevor Immelman Ev - – Pampling is playing better but Immelman won the green jacket in 2008. Trevor should be trying to heat up before returning to Augusta to defend his title. That means that he plays much better in this than he has all year long. I like Immelman.
    Pick: Trevor Immelman at Ev

  1. Charles Howell III -110 vs. Hunter Mahan -120 - – Howell III did enough last week in the Transitions to finish second to Retief Goosen. He should carry that terrific form over into the Arnold Palmer. Howell III is a good bet in this matchup.
Pick: Charles Howell III at -110

  1. Retief Goosen -110 vs. Jim Furyk -120 – - I love how Goosen won the Transitions last week after going through a serious drought. Make no mistake, Goosen is going to be tough at Augusta in two weeks but Furyk has too much pride, and too much talent, not to respond to the implosion last week. Furyk should be one of the top choices to win the Arnold Palmer which means he beats “Goose” in this matchup.
    Pick: Jim Furyk at -120
