The US Open 2011 is being played at Congressional Country Club, so you may want to look at Ernie Els’ past statistics before wagering on PGA Golf Futures which are up right now at Bet US.

You may be surprised how high a price you can get on Graeme McDowell, the defending champion in this event.

Course – Congressional Country Club, Par 70 – Yardage 7,245

This will be the third U.S. Open Golf Championship the Congressional Country Club has hosted. Ken Venturi won here in 1964, and Ernie Els snagged one of his PGA Majors here in 1997 for you Golf Futures researchers.

In last year’s event at Pebble Beach, the top 5 finishers all finished with scores over par in the final round. Tiger Woods even shot 75 on the same course he schooled the field just 10 years earlier. That’s because this PGA Golf Major is the hardest as some found out the hard way.

Dustin Johnson’s monstrous round ended what was sure to be his first PGA Major Golf Tournament win. Johnson choked his way around the course to an 11 over par 82. Hell, I shot 85 the first time I played that course.

A five over final round of 77 would have given him the win, but in the US Open conditions, making a mess of oneself like ol’ Dusty did is very possible. This is easily the hardest of the 4 PGA Golf Majors and tests every skill you have (or don’t Dustin) each day of this unforgiving beast.

When betting these Golf Futures, remember that The US Open is different from the Masters, British Open and the PGA Championship in the trademark difficult playing conditions they hold standard.

This tournament tests the accuracy and distance control of a player as well as the players’ skill to overcome obstacles and trouble.

The US Open has some traditional guidelines that have changed slightly over the years with the equipment. The fairway will vary depending on the length and slope of the hole from 22 to 34 yards wide. On a hole of average length and slope, 26 yards would be the normal width.

There are two cuts of rough in US Opens which really penalizes the errant shots most of you scrubs would be hitting it in. The first cut is 3.5 inches, and the second is 6 inches and up. That second cut ends up being like a penalty stroke often forcing a pitch out to the fairway.

The sadists in charge of these conditions also get 10.5 to 14 on the Stimpmeter to insure firm and fast standing across the golf course. That means you don’t bet first-timers in this tournament to win for your Golf Futures.

And if you hit into the bunker, don’t expect normalcy there either. These savages like to soften those up with deep raking so the players can have some fried eggs with their iron.
