Golf Betting – World’s Top Three Players Compete In Dubai Desert Classic

February 10, 2011

The Dubai Desert Classic, one of the most impressive stops on the European Tour, promises players a huge purse just for showing up, not to mention the more than $2 million up for grabs. Here’s a look at the golf betting favorites to shine this week:

Tiger Woods +400

Despite not winning a tournament since his social life was made public, Tiger Woods remains the betting favorite in just about every event he plays. Woods, who won this tournament in 2006 and 2008, is hoping to build on a T-44 finish at Torrey Pines two weeks ago. He opened with a 69 in each of the first two rounds then fell off the pace with a 74 and a 75 in the final two rounds.

Woods has a lot going on this week, playing in a pro-am par-3 tournament while watching his business ventures in Dubai slam on the brakes. It will be interesting to see just how focused he is through the first two rounds. His short game and putting were all over the place in his first outing of the year; however, he was hitting the ball a ton.

Martin Kaymer (+500)

Martin Kaymer is garnering a lot of comparisons to Woods. The 27-year-old German was dominant at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in January, grabbing the lead with a first-round score of 67 and never letting go to finish 24-under par – eight shots ahead of the second-place finisher.

That win knocked Woods from his No. 2 spot in the World Golf Rankings. Kaymer finished second to Woods in the 2008 Dubai Desert Classic.

Rory McIlroy +700

Rory McIlroy could be chasing both Woods and Kaymer this week. He finished a distant second to Kaymer at Abu Dhabi but is looking forward to another shot at his European rival this week. The 26-year-old Irishman finished tied for sixth in Dubai last year, shooting an 8-under par. The year before that, he won the Dubai Desert Classic with a 19-under par, finishing one stroke ahead of Justin Rose.

Other notables

Lee Westwood (+900)

Alvaro Quiros (+1,500)

Francesco Molinari (+1,500)
