Golf Betting – Valero Texas Open 1st Round Leader Props

May 14, 2009

Sometimes the best odds on a golfer you might like to win a tournament can be found in betting him to lead in a tournament after the first round.

The reason is simple. Most successful golfers turn it on towards the end of the tournament while the lesser known golfers usually lead in the first round or two.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that not betting a good golfer to lead after the first round is a bad thing. It can be a very good thing depending on the Golf odds.

Let’s take a look at some of the better wagers to be in the lead after the 1 st round in the Valero Texas Open.

Golf: Valero Texas Open 1 st Round Leader

  1. Justin Leonard +2000 – - Leonard will try to get a lead early on his home course and then coast to a victory. He’s due for a good tournament. A good tournament starts with a terrific first round. He shot a 68 in the first round of the Shell Houston Open and a 69 in the first round of the WGC-CA. Last week at TPC he shot a 70 in the first round.
  2. Zach Johnson +2000 – - The defending champion is ranked in the top ten on the money list at #8 and should be ready to get it going off the tee on the first day of the Valero. He usually shoots around a 70 on the opening day. Because he knows the Valero course, he might shoot a 68 or 69.
  3. Tim Clark +2500 – - Clark will bust out a 68 or even a 66 in the first round of a tournament once in a while. Sometimes, he ends up around 72 in that first round, but this is the type of tournament where Clark should be hot early and then maybe cool off towards the end.
  4. Charley Hoffman +3000 – - Hoffman had a string of first rounds where he shot a 66 and two 68s. Then, he just recently shot a 69 in the first round of the Zurich Classic. He has made the cut in all 11 tournaments he’s played in this season. That means he’s a definite possibility to be leading after the first round in the Valero Open.
  5. Chad Campbell +3000 – - Campbell busted a 68 in the first round in the Arnold Palmer and then a 65 in the first round of the Masters. He has the ability to do the same in the Valero Texas Open at what are fantastic odds.
  6. Brian Gay +3500 – - Gay withdrew from the TPC after shooting an 80 in the first round. Hopefully, it wasn’t anything that would lead him to miss the Valero. Before the TPC, he shot a 68, 69 and 67 in his last three first rounds. That’s pretty good. At odds of 35 to 1, he has to be considered for a wager in the Valero to lead after round one.
