Golf Betting – Kaymer and Watney Solid Faves in the Sports Book to Win Transitions

March 17, 2011

Martin Kaymer, the world’s number 1 ranked golfer, and Nick Watney, last week’s WGC-Cadillac champ, are solid golf odds favorites in the sports book to win this week’s Transitions Championship.

Both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will sit this one out, but that means nothing to Martin Kaymer who has yet to score a victory on the PGA Tour this year but is obviously a contender in the Transitions’ field.  Watney was brilliant at Doral last week.  He just wants to maintain his awesome form.

To Win

Best Bet A:  Martin Kaymer +1000

Kaymer is the favorite in this golf tournament for a reason.  He’s ranked second in the Race to Dubai on the European Tour because he scored a first place finish at the Abu Dhabi Championship and then finished second at the WGC-Accenture to Luke Donald.  Last week, as one of the online golf betting favorites at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, Martin produced a twenty-fourth place finish.  He shot a second round 70 and third and fourth rounds of 74 after shooting a 66 first round.  Imploding isn’t Kaymer’s usual style on the course.  He’s going to be ultra-tough this week.

Best Bet B:  Padraig Harrington +3000

Paddy had the guns blazing last week at Doral.  Harrington finished tied tenth after shooting a first round 68 and a third round 68.  The 71 second round was okay, but, like Kaymer, Paddy sort of imploded in the fourth round with a 73.  He goes to Innsbrook this week, however, a course that he dominated for two rounds in 2010 when shooting a first round 69 and a brilliant 65 second round.  Harrington ended up finishing in eighth place at this tournament last year.  At the odds listed in the online golf sportsbook, it’s hard not to like Paddy to win this week.

Best Underdog Bet:  Martin Laird +4500

Martin Laird’s twenty-eighth place finish at this tournament in 2010 isn’t as bad as it looks.  He shot under par in 3 out of the 4 rounds.  It was that 73 third round that did him in.  Now, Laird goes to Innsbrook having finished tenth, and tying Padraig, at the WGC-Cadillac Championship.  Martin’s having an exceptional year.  He’s ranked seventh in driving distance with a 303.5 average, fifteenth in birdie average with a 4.42 and fifteenth in the all-around category.

Others To Consider

Nick Watney +1000 – - How long will it be before Nick throws his hat into the best in the world ring?  Watney is a co-favorite in the PGA sportsbook to win this tournament because he hasn’t finished out of the Top 10 in all 5 of the tournaments he’s played in this year.  Yeah, he’s been that good.

Paul Casey +2000 – - Casey hasn’t scored a Top 10 finish in 3 tournaments on the PGA Tour this season.  The odds makers might be giving Paul too much credit to win the Transitions this week.

Bubba Watson +3000 – - Watson finished third at the 2010 Transitions Championship.  Bubba’s ranked first in driving distance with a 314.8 average and first in greens in regulation with a 76.80% success rate.
