Golf Betting – Best Golf Bets in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans

April 21, 2010

The PGA Tour heads to New Orleans, Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Usually the type of tournament that the big guns decide to skip, the Zurich Classic has attracted a few name golfers looking to get their games back on track.

One of those, Steve Stricker, was all the rage to start out 2010 when Tiger Woods was out of action. Stricker hasn’t lived up to the hype so far this year, but he could get his game going down in the bayou.

But is he the best golf bet when it comes to the tournament match-ups in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans? Read on to find out.

Tee-off: 4/22/2010

PGA Tour: Zurich Classic of New Orleans Tournament Match-ups

** Golf Odds listed in sportsbook

  1. Ian Poulter +105 vs. Steve Stricker -135 – - Stricker is the favorite in this match-up based on reputation alone. Steve hasn’t finished better than 30th in his last two tournaments while Poulter notched a 10th place finish in the Masters two weeks ago. If Poulter has his head right, he should win this match-up easily considering how Stricker has been playing. Poulter won the WGC-Accenture earlier this year while Stricker, as a #1 seed in the match play tournament, didn’t make it out of the 1st round.
  2. Pick: Ian Poulter

  3. Stephen Ames Ev vs. K.J. Choi -130 – - After being tied for the lead after shooting a 64 firs round in the Verizon Heritage, Choi shot a 74, 72 and 72 to finish in 41st place. Ames hasn’t been bad this year with a 6th place finish in the Transitions Championship and a 14th place finish in the Verizon last week. He missed the cut in last year’s Zurich Classic but has been moving in the right direction, I believe, and is worth a golf bet at the odds.
  4. Pick: Stephen Ames

  5. Charles Howell III -110 vs. Steve Marino -120 – - I believe that both of these guys have legitimate shots to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Usually, I’d go with the guy going off at the better odds in match-up wagering, but Marino has that look about him that leads me to believe he might be on his game this week. I’ll go with Marino in this match-up even though Howell III finished a stroke ahead of Steve, -13 to -12, in last year’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
  6. Pick: Steve Marino

  7. Mike Weir -135 vs. Webb Simpson +105 – - This isn’t as easy of a pick as one would think. Weir, an exceptional golfer during most weeks, hasn’t finished better than 26th in 5 straight tournaments. Simpson finished 13th in the Transitions and 14th in the Verizon Heritage. Webb also made the cut in last year’s Zurich Classic while Weir did not. Still, Weir is too good of a golfer to keep missing the Top 10. He should turn around his bad form this week.
  8. Pick: Mike Weir

  9. JJ Henry -120 vs. Charlie Wi -110 – - Wi has been absolutely awful in his last 2 tournaments. He failed to make the cut in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and finished in 78th place in the Verizon Heritage, but he finished 2nd in last year’s Zurich Classic with a 13 under. Henry’s been playing better than Wi lately but he missed the cut in last year’s Zurich Classic. I have to go with Wi in this match-up.
  10. Pick: Charlie Wi
