Georgia One of the Best NCAAF Picks to Cover the Spread

September 25, 2010

Yes, the Georgia Bulldogs should be one of the best NCAAF picks to cover the spread this Saturday.  I wrote should…did you notice that?

I wrote should because I’ve backed Georgia in the past two weeks.  I backed them ATS versus South Carolina and they disappointed.  I backed them ATS last week versus Arkansas and they disappointed again.

Forgive me if I’m a bit hesitant to back the Bulldogs against Mississippi State, but, yep, I’m not sure I have a choice.  Georgia definitely is one of the best NCAAF picks to cover the spread this Saturday, Sept. 25th.

The college football wagering trends favor Georgia in this game.

  • The Georgia Bulldogs are 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games on the road versus a team with a losing home record.
  • The Georgia Bulldogs are 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
  • The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 1-5-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
  • The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 conference games.

I’m not by any means sold on Georgia as being a very good team, but they do get one “hot” wagering trend while Mississippi State gets zero hot trends.  That has to count for something, right?

Not really.  The bottom line is that I just don’t see a Mark Richt coached team losing 3 games in a row and the betting line is a pick in this game.  So, based on those two things, the Georgia Bulldogs are one of the best NCAAF picks to cover the spread this Saturday.

If those aren’t reasons enough, then how about this:  Georgia had a shot against both South Carolina and Arkansas but failed in both games.

Against South Carolina, Georgia got the ball down to the 3-yard line before RB Washaun Easly fumbled.  At the time, the Bulldogs were down 14 to 6 and could have tied the game or gotten into a field goal situation with a TD.  Against Arkansas, Georgia did tie the game before Razorback QB Ryan Mallett delivered a 40-yard TD to Greg Childs with 15 seconds remaining in the Bulldogs 24 to 31 loss.

Mississippi State was never in the game against LSU last Saturday.  Granted, LSU is one of the best teams in college football, a Top 10 team for sure, but the MSU Bulldogs should have at least put up a fight against the Tigers.  After all, they were only 7 ½ point dogs and lost 7 to 29.

MSU did, however, play very well against Auburn but both South Carolina and Arkansas, in my opinion, are better than Auburn. So, this game comes down to which team is ready to win again after suffering through two tough losses, the Georgia Bulldogs or the Mississippi State Bulldogs?

Because MSU appears to be on the cusp of creating a winning football program, the nod has to go to Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs.  Simply put, Richt doesn’t lose 3 straight games very often and the loss to Arkansas last Saturday has to be sitting in a bad place in his stomach.

MSU’s offense can be downright awful at times.  The MSU Bulldogs’ D is good but Georgia’s offense was close to scintillating against #12 ranked Arkansas last Saturday when racking up 392 total yards and 24 points.

Georgia has faced the tougher opponents.  They have the more established winning football program with the National Championship winning coach.  The Georgia Bulldogs are one of the best NCAAF picks ATS this Saturday.
